EX-CULT - MIDNIGHT PASSENGER - APRIL 29th

Ex-Cult’s Midnight Passenger is the result of a never ending obsession with the open road. It’s the sound of five people spending the last year in countless dive bars, disgusting motel rooms and on dozens of dirty floors.  Since recording with Ty Segall in 2012 the band hasn’t come up for air, putting four US tours and tons of weekend trips under their belt with the likes of OBN III’s, Captive and Ty Segall.

It was in these dive bars across the USA that Ex-Cult truly found their sound. While some of the songs were played for audiences as early as January of 2013, it wasn’t until a West Coast tour in June that the blue print for Midnight Passenger really started to take form. Taking pieces of every tour back home with them, the band began to hone a sound that captured the desperation of the first record, while being careful to integrate new techniques of negative noise.

Recorded by Doug Easley in January of 2014, Midnight Passenger is comprised of ten songs that were meant to be heard together, each one following a different, damaged storyline. The buzz-saw guitars, kraut rock rhythm section and sneering vocals are all still present, but with Midnight Passenger, Ex-Cult has added a few layers of psychedelic slime to their sound.

Leaf Off / The Cave

Bruising formed late last year after singer and guitarist Naomi Baguley spotted Ben Lewis wearing a Perfect Pussy t-shirt in a Leeds nightclub. Bonding over a mutual love of all things fuzzy, they began messaging voice memos from their phones back and forth until, finally, they got together in the same room and started writing some songs. This is one of them.

Self-recorded in their bedrooms in Hyde Park, Leeds, 'Can't You Feel' is pretty much the epitome of what Bruising want to do - fuzzy pop with big hooks, riddled with earworm guitar riffs and led by aloof-yet-infectious dream-clad vocals. 

'Can't You Feel' is taken from the upcoming Beech Coma compilation, Vol. 3. Featuring exclusive new music from the likes of Jr., Thalassocracy and bare pale, the compilation will be released 9th March 2015 on ltd red cassette, t-shirt bundle and digital download - pre-order from http://beechcoma.bandcamp.com/. Having released a dreamy album inspired by 60s sci-fi soundtracks, Swedish trio @death-and-vanilla were invited to live score cult horror Vampyr at a Scandi film festival and their slow, steady, swirling accent continued. 

Their new LP To Where The Wild Things Are,is a poppier affair; the warm analogue loops of their vintage instruments crying out for the sweet breathy vocals that Marleen delivers with a calm and enchanting ease. Named after the children’s book, the album celebrates imagination and the ability to delve into the less-explored areas of the mind. Exactly what we need to get us through today, we are pleased to present the premiere of album track, California Owls. Almost hypnotic, this is dream pop at its absolute best. Enjoy!

The first single from Crocodiles’ forthcoming album Boys offers a gaze into the salsa-punk existence the band lived while recording in Mexico City. It is the sound of helado and cervezas; bottles smashing against heads in Cuauhtémoc bat-caves.  Charles Rowell’s psychedelic guitar swirl starts “Crybaby Demon,” immediately followed by an infectiously repetitive bass line and Latin trashcan percussion. Brandon Welchez’s sneering vocal floats above, telling the tale of a fallen angel, head still in the clouds, abusive and abused.  The flip side is a joyously noisy retelling of Hot Chocolate’s 1975 disco classic “U Sexy Thing” and adds to their ever growing collection of oddball influences.

After netting over 4 millions soundcloud plays in 2014, 2015 started out really strong for Unlike Pluto. His first release was a bootleg of Diplo - “Revolution”, which today has a combined 4 million listens alone on Soundcloud. Now he’s set to do the rest of the year really big starting off with his KickRaux-collab “Palace” + the b-side "Tew". KickRaux first gained wide-spread attention following the release of his “OG Bobby Johnson” remix with Major Lazer’s Walshy Fire. He's since gone on to do official remix for the likes of Migos, Flosstradamus plus many others. Lately, he's has been hard at work bringing his unique sound to dancehall while working on EPs for Reggae legend Jah Vinci and more.

There’s almost nothing better than listening to "Palace". The soundscape is amazing with a drop synth that sounds likes a swarm of 50 ft mutant killer bees invading your city and builds as emotional as a funeral for 1000 beached dolphins. The b-side is “Tew”, a perfect soundtrack to Jodorowsky’s Dune if it were to come to ever come to life. It's the beautiful sound of a 5 headed humanoid malfunctioning and slowly dying while it livestreams its demise to a record execs in a far off galaxy. Its solar batteries drain due to the sun being extinguished forever but he will live on in another world.
