Princess's Lament

A Spark of Light is what I seek every day.  It is a moment of hope, revelation, peace, love, and joy.  Music speaks to me in this way.  I invite you to listen and feel the spark!

A Spark of Light

My latest collaboration with the force of nature that is Bill White. Bill sent me these amazing lyrics earlier in the summer, but it took me a long time to get the musical treatment the way I wanted.

Alongside the lyrics, Bill sent me a note that really helped guide the musical composition, and which I think is useful context when listening: "They [pelicans] are a symbol of maternal self-sacrifice, as the mother, to keep her children from starving, has been known to pierce her breast with her beak, and feed the blood to her children, after which she dies. In Christian iconography, the pelican has been pictured as a Christ symbol."

Beyond Forgetting is a piece written for my mother while going through the stages of chemo brain.  The forgetting, the lack of recall, wishing for things that no longer existed... Twenty-five years of suffering until finally passing away at age 89.  She was so loved and well-taken care of during this time. We as family had a longing of what once was in her life and ours.  Humbleness is perhaps the gift that was most learned during this time.  For there was no opportunity for selfishness, but simply showing love to a dear, dear beautiful mother.
