A1 Sense Connections 027 - Selection Maison

È una storia d’angoscia, ossessione, gesti ripetitivi: vai a lavorare, trova parcheggio, morditi le labbra, ripeti qualche vecchio trucco, fingi di provare sentimenti verso persone che non conosci davvero.
«A voice from the dark: “Relax, have some fun”». 
E il divertimento non è mai sembrato così disperato e inquietante come in Shopping List, il singolo che annuncia il ritorno dei bolognesi Big Cream e anticipa il loro secondo album, Hanging, in uscita per WWNBB e More Letters Records il prossimo 27 maggio.
«Abbiamo scritto Shopping List durante il secondo lockdown del 2020. Volevamo raccontare l’alienazione generata dalla routine, in particolare quella lavorativa. Azioni ripetute compulsivamente fino a perdere qualsiasi significato. La canzone mette in parallelo questi gesti meccanici e i pop-up pubblicitari: entrambi scorrono di fronte ai nostri occhi, senza nessun tipo di registrazione conscia. Nel testo si susseguono quindi parole slegate come in una lista della spesa, prive di qualsiasi legame logico. Pur sapendo che un’alternativa a questa quotidianità malsana esiste (“a blinding red sun”, dice un verso della canzone), preferiamo perpetuarla per autoindulgenza e debolezza».
Tutto questo si traduce in un suono cupo e aggressivo, un ritmo che incalza, chitarre che stridono fino a quando esplode il sax. Shopping List rappresenta una buona sintesi delle influenze che accompagnano la musica dei Big Cream oggi, dalla No Wave di James Chance, passando per il post-punk di Pere Ubu e Pylon, fino al post-hardcore degli Unwound e degli Hot Snakes.

Shopping List è stata registrata tra l’autunno 2020 e la primavera del 2021 al VDSS Studio e al Vacuum Recording Studio, rispettivamente da Filippo Strang ed Enrico Baraldi.

’مزاج’ هو اسمي الفني كموسيقي منفرد.  من فبراير ٢٠٢٢ وانا باشتغل على المشروع دة في جنوب فرنسا. الارتجال او الانتاج التلقائي للصوت كان المحرك الرئيسي للتأليف. مع ان الغرض كان التأليف و ليس الاستعراض الحقيقة ان الرحلة كانت ممتعة فقررت أشاركها هنا معاك/معاكي - بدون تعديل، بدون مونتاج، الألحان والكلمات دي وليدة اللحظة.

Mazag est mon nom de scène de musicien solo. 
Depuis février 2022 je travail pour créer un répertoire, principalement par le bias de l’impro et la composition spontanée. Le but était la création et pas la production finale mais le voyage était bien trippant donc j’ai décidé de le partager avec toi - sans modification, sans ajout, les mots et les mélodies sont nées à l’instant de l’enregistrement.

Episode 619 brings us a mix from talented dj, Kendal!

Kendal's mix is pedal down to the floor from when she hits the record button, you get brief breaks throughout the mix to gather wits, but not too long and Kendal is hitting you with a barrage of amens, rollers, footwork, upfront tracks, dancefloor tunes, and more, switching between styles in the mix, keeping things fresh! Kendal smashed this mix and showcased her incredible versatility with this one! Quite the track list!

Let's meet our dj for episode 619, Kendal:

Kendal started playing records back in Liverpool 20 years ago after spending her student loan on a pair of Gemini Scratch Master 5’s. Then “Miss Kendal”. She co-ran a night called ‘What is This’ and had a weekly residency at ‘The Magnet’ playing mostly tech and dark amens. She played regularly at Lakota and Black Swan in Bristol for ‘Finite’, record bag full of labels like Position Chrome, Offbeat, Renegade Hardware and Prspct. Now, Kendal is the head honcho of Midlands-based “Bloom”, booking the likes of Equinox, Bkey, Dom & Roland, Digital, Response and more over the last 14 years, bringing the underground sounds of Jungle and Drum & Bass to Derby. Kendal regularly represents ‘Violation Hard Drum & Bass’ and also made her debut at Jungle Syndicate in April, opening The Coroner’s Court. Kendal now mostly plays hard amens and darkness (with a bit of happy hardcore), and she has a regular slot on The Underground Lair radio. In her record collection you’ll find everything from DJ Hidden to FFF, SPL to Dub One…and to Distant Planet she’ll be bringing a bit of Footwork, Jungle, Hardcore…and more Jungle.
