Mega City Industry is Ital Tek’s sophomore effort for Civil Music. Formed of four liquid hybrids exploring Footwork's accelerated template the EP splices the rhythmic memes of Chicago with UK sci-fi sonics rooted in classic '90s AI and jungle music.

With three albums for Planet Mu to his name and an uncanny knack of always sounding completely unique Ital Tek has been evolving his dexterous dance-floor electronica, techy IDM, glitch-hop and post-dubstep forms for approaching a decade. Impressively adept at shrugging off the constraints of genre identification his output has most recently been inspired by the febrility and tension/release of Chicago Footwork rhythms. In addition to releasing on his own Atom River imprint Myson is now a regular contributor to Civil Music and his 2013 debut for the label 'Hyper Real' further revealed his stylistic slipperiness. Morphing the rhythmic geometry around footwork’s 160BPM tempo the release's highly melodic, nimble dance-floor sophistication was equal parts cerebral and hedonistic.

'Mega City Industry' continues where he left off and for an artist that has never put a foot wrong, with a catalogue which must be the envy of the vast majority of electronic musicians, it is with some gravitas we suggest that Mega City Industry is his most engaging work to date. Blending widescreen space and chimeric panorama with iron-fist industrial rhythms and cosmic dread Myson draws subtle, sinuous electronic connections between complex rhythm structures, sleek synth contours, frozen ambience and the darkside rush of growling bass. Rendered with breathtaking sound design the production is almost unfathomable - crisp and airy whilst pneumatic and heavy. Brimming in sensation, tempered skill and emotional mastery Mega City Industry is a sophisticated and expertly reduced EP.

Following on from the Cairn EP earlier this year, Brecon - the new collaborative project from Joe Farr and Will Brown - present the Cairn Remixes, due 22 November on MESH. For this package, Om Unit, Nicolas Bougaïeff , Max Cooper and Tenebre present four diverse interpretations of tracks from the EP. 

Drawing on years of experience as established producers in the UK scene, Brecon fuse their heavier dance music heritage with a penchant for introspective melodies. Angular percussion and reflective harmonies drive a range of tempos into vast acoustics, wandering through repurposed references to UK garage, early dubstep, house and techno. 

For his remix of ‘Scarp’, Om Unit forges a dubbed out half-time stepper with rich, immersive textures and rolling percussion, followed by Max Cooper’s shuffling, emotive take on ‘Scattered’. Tenebre’s take on ‘Subside’ morphs the pointillist form of the original into a gritty, industrial swirl. Closing off the EP, Nicolas Bougaïeff morphs ‘Half Light’ into a marching dancefloor cut for the peak hours.

Brecon - Scarp (Om Unit remix) - Forthcoming Mesh Records

Lapsus Records proudly presents the third release in its “Perennial” series, dedicated to reissuing contemporary electronica classics from established artists. 

The third release is from Christopher Scott Leary, who over the last two decades has produced a plethora of material under his pseudonym, Ochre. 2019 marks 15 years since the original release of “A Midsummer Nice Dream” in 2004; on British label Toytronic, which pushed Leary to the forefront of the experimental electronic music sphere. To celebrate the releases’ fifteenth anniversary, Lapsus Records will reissue a special collector’s edition of this IDM classic in the form of a double tri-colour vinyl release, re-mastered by John McCaig (panicStudios). It will also include a full-colour print of the new artwork, re-designed by Portland (Oregon) illustrator Nathaniel Reeves, who has worked alongside Ochre for almost a ten years. 

This special deluxe reissue entitled “A Midsummer Nice Dream (15th Anniversary Edition)“, features unreleased material from the same period and includes three bonus tracks on its vinyl version, six on its digital version, making it a truly unique release. It therefore offers a golden opportunity to rediscover an album that navigates through several genre domains such as ambient, IDM and experimental electronica in its purest form, stylistically reminiscent of the likes of Autechre, conveying a sound considerably ahead of its time. In its entirety “A Midsummer Nice Dream” is undoubtedly one of the most remarkable electronica glitch albums to be released in the 2000s, when the genre experienced its zenith, largely thanks to the advent of significant breakthroughs in digital production tools.
