I’m often asked ‘When are you going to post a new mix?’. Truth be told it’s been a long time since I’ve found the inspiration to record a mix for MYSELF, in my home set-up, vinyl only. 

This mix has no fancy camera angles, no excessive dancing, and no talking. Straight to the subject… deep & broken beats. 

I recorded this on Christmas Day, showcasing some tunes I’d used and cherished over 2024.

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank all those loyal people who keep coming back to my page, coming to events, and showing love. This year has opened my eyes to building a fantastic community, long may it continue.

Vinyl Mix: House Music With Feeling

House music seems to go through various trends, new iterations, reworks and phases. Jasper James has seen them come and go.

The Glaswegian DJ and producer was practically raised on the stuff, growing up around the Sub Club family and cutting his teeth at local parties and in small, dimly lit crowded basements long before it ever became ‘cool’ to be a DJ. His musical repertoire was taught by his father, Harri of Subculture fame. However his own ability to read a room and command a dancefloor remains very much his own.

Over the years he has evolved beyond the Glasgow underground playing globally and receiving acclaim before going on to release music on Optimo Trax, ESP Institute, No Art and Steel City Dance Discs amongst others.

This mix showcases his versatility in the booth as he weaves between shades of house music – demonstrating a deep rooted knowledge and respect for the origins of the genre.

I was worried I wouldn’t get this done due to gig commitments in South America, but Lost Beach Club in Montañita, Ecuador went out of their way to open up their back room (or “the cave” as they call it) so I could finish the mix. Huge thanks to them as well as all the people who were kind enough to share music with me for this one: Spencer (always), Cratebug, Armand, Ben UFO, Geroge Fitz, Mad Paddy who crashed in our villa in Ibiza, Palms Trax, Jonnie Wilkes and of course Martin Rubadub (also as always).

It's a kind of Tweak-A-Holic 4.5 meets Mastermix 2015 (as I never managed to get tweak #5 done this year, sorry) but it also features a load of the tracks that have been more prominent in my sets this year that a load of people have been asking about, as well as a couple of forthcoming, unreleased Numbers tunes.

The recording includes some surface noise, at few needle skips and more than a few dynamic discrepancies between transitions due to the fact I am attempting to mix 3 decades worth of music and technological mastering advances into 2 hours worth of music.
