Any artist is welcome to send us a track via freshonthenet.co.uk anytime between Monday lunchtime and Wednesday evening (or when we receive 200 submissions, whichever is sooner) - and all our moderators, including Tom Robinson, will listen to every track. This is our full inbox from the week beginning Mon 30th January 2023: from Friday afternoon you'll be able to hear our shortlist and pick your favourites on this week's Listening Post which will appear at freshonthenet.co.uk/batch475

If a track you submitted does not appear in this list, it’s probably because another of your tracks appeared in our Fresh Faves or on the BBC Music Introducing Mixtape during the last three months — we ask that artists featured on either wait three months before resubmitting to give others a chance. 

We also don’t accept short previews or SoundCloud Go tracks that can only be heard as 30 second previews, and tracks made private after submission, which cannot be included in playlists. You will be able to resubmit the track in future. Tracks (and remixes of tracks) that have been previously submitted, and tracks from banned artists will also be removed.

‘The Other Side’ is the first track from my upcoming EP; ‘Dark Before The Dawn’. It touches on dealing with mental health and coming through the other side stronger. The aim of this song is to help people struggling and inspire them to take positive action to deal with it and talk about it.

This song, "Falling" explores the emotion/experience being scared of falling in love. We give this experience to the listener by creating an atmospheric environment with heavy emphasis on the vocal harmonies, synth presence, and heavy groove from bass/drums. The song is filled with airy vocals, lush synth, psychedelic guitar lines, strong bass/drums groove, and ethereal harmonies. This is the first song we wrote and recorded together, but definitely not the last! It was mixed by Grammy Award winning engineer Nolan Thies and mastered by the esteemed Mike Fridmann.

Retrograde88 was formed in Boston in October 2021 and has been performing locally at small venues, gathering a loyal following. Each band member participated in the writing and arranging process for this song, making it a true collaboration. This is our first release, and we've got more stuff in the works!

Kindergraph is an independent musician making music in his attic with beats, synths, pianos and noises. Songs turns out however they turn out but the influences in the background probably include Fourtet, DJ Shadow, Mum, Emancipator, Boards of Canada, Massive Attack, The Blue Nile, TWDY, Wolf Alice, Jonsi, and the full gamut of 80s melodic pop. Sometimes playful, sometimes sad, sometimes triumphant, always curious.

This song came out of a phone call with an ex after we’d split up when I realised for the first time it was really over. It’s about discovering that someone you once knew so well has grown and changed without you. The fact that you can speak to someone every day and then suddenly know nothing about their life seems so strange to me but this song is about accepting that.
