August 2013... Lyrical devastation: Gruff, ruff and twice as tough; Blackout’s guttural sentiments are delivered straight from the soul with raw power and pure Jamaican heritage.

In the past the traditional reggae MC has worked with the likes of Courtney Pine, Sean Paul, Barrington Levy, Big Youth, Julian Marley, Buju Banton and many more. A consistency on Bristol’s leading jungle boutique since their earliest releases, here we find him teaming up with key members of the Run Tingz family for four incredible slabs of contemporary jungle drum & bass.

First up, ‘No Gangster Way’. A tag-team tear-up, Run Tingz Cru and Serial Killaz go toe-to-toe, laying down a broken-glass soundtrack of fat sines, pummelling kicks and brash dramatic synth horns while J.A extolls the virtues of a crime-free life. Rolling and punching in equal measure, it’s a bold statement of intent to ignite the EP.

‘Cross Roads’ follows. An interesting deviation on the classic Run Tingz style, the jump up groove is based on an elephantine bass stomp. Walloping with ‘heads-down’ one-note punches and a savage series of breakbeats, it’s the perfect bed for Blackout to philosophise about the endless choices we make each day and how they affect the rest of our lives.

New signing Ricky Tuff steps up for the penultimate jam ‘Close To Me’… Swaggering with a crisp synth-shot skank flex, Ricky’s licks are spacious enough for both Blackout and Blaze to bounce off each other with panache. As the subs bubble and the undulating beats roll with fire Blackout bigs up the girl dem while Blaze showcases some crazy double-time spittage.

It’s down to J.Man to close the show. And he does so with explosive results; mammoth warbling jungle bass, precision engineered breakbeats and classical amen art on the fills, J.Man’s recipe accentuates Blackout’s darkest motifs. With emphatic chants on the chorus and strident strings blended deep into the tearing texture it’s an instant dancefloor call to action you’ll want to reload again and again.

Taken from Origin One's recent "Deeply Rooted" album, "Nice & Easy" is a bouncing and bubbling hip hop infused reggae banger, perfectly crafted for summer and soundsystems in fields. Bristol's rising star Gardna supplies the chat, whilst Congo Natty cohort Nanci Correia drops the silky smooth chorus atop the shuffling skanking riddim, complementing each other perfectly.

On remix duties comes Mr Benn who flips the beat for a stripped back throwback dancehall affair, giving nods to a 90s classic, whilst Numa Crew's T-Kay turns up the energy for a massive drum and bass monster for the ravers. Nice and Easy!
