years escaped from my grasp 
balloons swirled up towards billowing clouds
swept by each second passed
and my reach is too slow to catch them

rode my bike to the park
dirt roads etched in training wheel tracks 
swerved from present to past
scraped my knees and never went back

too far gone, too far grown 

can the sleepless learn to dream?
can the guarded learn to be free?
can the careful and tame learn to be wild?
can a grown up grow down?

clutched by each person passed
caught in haze, I hold my breath
