Den som är ofrivilligt ensam alltför länge riskerar att drabbas av en särskild sjukdom, som förutom att döda tar ifrån en synen och färgar svetten svart. Simon, som varit anställd inom ett statligt försök att motverka sjukdomen, söker upp en drabbad som han av något skäl inte kan släppa.
