Richard Norris is a musician and producer based in London, currently working on a series of ambient/deep listening/experimental releases on the Group Mind label. He showcased this music at Nile Rodgers' Meltdown Festival on the Southbank, London, on August 7th supporting Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein, playing the music from Stranger Things.
His work includes co-producing the 1988 album 'Jack the Tab' one of the first UK acid house records, which resulted in an appearance on the cover of NME. A record deal with Warners as the Grid followed, with Soft Cell's Dave Ball. The Grid produced 10 hit singles and 3 albums, including the million selling 'Swamp Thing'.  Norris subsequently collaborated with a number of artists, including Joe Strummer and Robert Fripp. His work with Erol Alkan as Beyond The Wizards Sleeve resulted in many well regarded edits and remixes. The BTWS album 'The Soft Bounce' was a Rough Trade record of the year.
He has also produced albums and mixes as solo psych project The Time and Space Machine, remixing many artists including Warpaint, Tame Impala, Brian Eno, Noel Gallagher and Erasure. His Group Mind label has regular releases via Bandcamp, streaming and independent record shops, and a Bandcamp subscription service with regular vinyl, CD and download releases.
The Grid have recently signed to BMG and will be releasing new music and playing live dates in 2024. His memoir 'Strange Things Are Happening' is published by White Rabbit on 21st March 2024.

My name is Jesse Fry. I’ve been doing music since I was a young teenager. I started off playing in punk rock bands in high school. After graduating, I ended up in Japan in the Marine Corps. I started producing and DJing house music under the name Diesel Deejay. I became part of the “Oki PLUR” Dj crew, and continued producing my own music, including a few collaborations with my friend Onetwenty. Upon returning to the states, my friend Skyler Murray and I started The Grim Hippies, an acoustic punk band with some folk and bluegrass influences. We played a lot of shows around West Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York. Intermittently during this time, I was traveling the states by hopping freight trains and hitchhiking. I made money by busking (street performing) with my guitar, often playing with other travelers. After getting married and settling down, I started working on my bachelors degree in audio production through Full Sail University. I now live in Oswego, NY.

Founded in 1996 by Peter Adarkwah, Barely Breaking Even (BBE Music) started life as a London club night, taking its name from the eponymous Disco record by the Universal Robot Band.

The label grew from the vibrant early 90's club scene with its first release, Stop & Listen compiled by Dr Bob Jones in 1996, opening the door to iconic series' such as All Back To Mine & Late Nite Tales.

A tonne of releases followed, ranging from Disco to Funk, Jazz to House. In the year 2000, the label celebrated Masters at Work's 10th Anniversary with a mighty box set that featured near 80 tracks.

A year later BBE Music spawned the Beat Generation Series of artist albums, notably introducing J Dilla (Welcome 2 Detroit) & a young Will.I.Am's first solo outing, alongside DJ Jazzy Jeff, Madlib & DJ Spinna, all of whom contributed to this seminal set of long players.

A quarter of a century and well over 500 titles later, having worked with Mark Ronson, Roy Ayers, Questlove, Hugh Masekela, DJ Premier, Dimitri from Paris, Joey Negro, Kon, RZA, Laurent Garnier, Black Coffee, DJ Shadow, David Rodigan and John Morales among many others, BBE Music looks to the future, celebrating its rich heritage while continuing to release a bounty of fresh titles.

The label’s most recent projects include an expansive reissue series from pioneering Nigerian label Tabansi, new imprint ‘Batakari’ in association with Boddhi Satva and the critically acclaimed ‘J Jazz’ Japanese Jazz multi-album project, not to mention the recent landmark 500th label release: a brand new version of 'Barely Breaking Even', featuring Leroy Burgess, Patrick Adams and Louie Vega.

In 2021 BBE Music is celebrating its 25th anniversary. To mark this milestone, the label is offering up some special projects, from the 20th Anniversary edition of J Dilla’s ‘Welcome 2 Detroit’, through David Bowie tribute album ‘Modern Love’, to a special new ‘Worldwide’ compilation from old friend Gilles Peterson. The Starkiller (AKA Super Hans AKA Che Guerrilla) has been making electronic music and remixes since the late 1990s. He likes to keep things slow - his favourite BPM is 111. 

Influences are (among others) Giorgio Moroder, Kraftwerk, Hall & Oates, Daft Punk, Chic, and lots of other lesser known but equally important artists.
