And if you do, do you know where they came from, and WHY you have them? 
 
And even more importantly, do the beliefs you have around sex and intimacy serve you, or hinder you? Do they mean you have a wholesome love life, or do they mean you have issues and hang ups? 
 
So, here is where I beliefs come from: 
Parents
Teachers
Role models
Past experiences
Fears 
Religion
Politics
Media
 
You get the picture, right? 
 
So, the next question I have is.... WHY HAS THE MOST DIVINE, and NATURAL act on the planet become such a taboo? You might think that things have changed, and possibly they have, but not to where it could be... Not to the point where we are open enough to talk about what some of our concerns are, or whether we were enjoying sex! 
 
You would think, based on what you see in the media, on video clips, and music videos, that we were all totally open about talking sex and intimacy. But that is far from the truth. We live in an overtly sexualized world, where no one is talking openly about sex! 
 
So it's okay for us to show insinuated sexuality, but it is not okay for us to teach our children about sexuality, love and intimacy? Yet they can watch it on TV! It is time for a change! How do we get that change? We start to talk more openly about HEALTHY, DIVINE, LOVING intimacy. 
 
I am not advocating opening up conversations where people are uncomfortable talking - but what I am saying is that NOW is the time for us to take back control over our sexuality, and what we are teaching about it, and the hang ups that we are creating for the next generation. 
 
How can you become more comfortable talking positively about sex and intimacy?
 
1. Become aware of your beliefs - do they serve you, and those around you? If they don't, speak to a professional. 
 
2. REFUSE to engage in discriminatory conversations about sexuality, gender, and shaming of any kind. This is a huge no/no! Things like, typical girl/woman, or typical boy/man! It is not okay to make someone wrong for their sexuality, gender, or personal traits that they CANNOT change.
 
3. Have loving, meaningful conversations about sex and intimacy. Open up to someone you trust about your own upbringing and what your experiences are. This could be with your partner, your children, or if you feel stuck, a professional. 
 
4. Do not turn the TV off when it comes to showing loving intimate scenes. But DO turn it off when their is hate, violence, war and topics that are disturbing. Switch the focus from violence to love. 
 
5. Surround yourself with other people who are open to talking about sex and intimacy positively.  
 
Let's get serious about investing our time and energy into focusing on love, intimacy and connection, as opposed to overt sexuality, shaming, and violence.
