Branches came into being during a long time planned project between Tui (Orla Wren) and Cyril Secq (member of the band Astrïd). Having worked together when Cyril contributed guitar to the Orla Wren’s previous albums the idea then formed to do something further and even more collaborative. At the same time, Cyril had recorded many guitar parts, as a ‘solo’ project, that had never been released. And they were the basis, the bones for Orla to work, completely free.

It’s a duet between acoustic strings and processing, field recordings, edits and organic arrangements. This music is steadily ramifies, growing out of itself like a wild tree. The tunes woven together and untwine again as a branches shaken by the wind. It sounds focused, calm and distinct. Although everything has been done in distant places (France and Scotland) the result sounds like two musicians experimenting in the same room, sharing their background and culture.

The beautiful photographic work from Spanish born Nieves Mingueza brought the whole project together in the form of these two very special editions of Branches.

Game creator David OReilly has built an interactive world for you to explore at your choosing. Whether you decide to take the role of a microbe inside a plant in the desert, or a star in the furthermost galaxy, each layer of the game is coated with ambience which takes the simulation even further into the limitless boundaries of each world. Composers Ben Lukas Boysen and Sebastian Plano have shaped this experience with their intricate 4-hour soundscape, alongside the continuous narration by philosopher Alan Watts. 

Though the score has an important part to play in heightening the atmosphere of the game, it has the capability of being a standalone album – carefully sequenced down to a 10-track selection by label founder Robert Raths. There is a considerably therapeutic quality about it, allowing the audience to transcend into a meditative state, which is what makes it a perfect partner for Everything. The music is a whole world of its own, yet part of the game’s universe.

We discussed many approaches, from really mathematical and direct, to abstract and philosophical, and we ended up with a mixture of both. Tsembla - Nouskaa Henget LP

Tsembla is the musical work of Marja Johansson, a Swedish-Finnish
artist operating out of Turku, Finland. Utilizing a wide range of
instruments, electronics, objects and manipulated samples, the music
of Tsembla rides on waves of warped melodies, fluttering rhythms,
abstract voices and mutating textures, crossbreeding the known and the
imaginary.

Nouskaa henget (Spirits, rise!) is her third release, after the 7”
Tuplafiesta, released by Jan Anderzén’s Vauva label in 2009 and the LP
Fauna on the Finnish Ikuisuus label in 2011. Loosely assembled, rough
edged compositions, rich in details, come together into odd
instrumental miniatures in an almost-pop format, venturing into fourth
world territory from a clattering, wheezing and boiling DIY kitchen
inspired by Moondog, Ruth White, Raymond Roussel, LAFMS, Jon Hassell,
Anton Bruhin, René Daumal, Suzanne Ciani and folk musics of the Andes
and Asia. Two of the tracks on the album are made in collaboration
with flute wizard Antti Tolvi (of Rauhan Orkesteri, Lauhkeat Lampaat
etc.) layering up Tolvi’s overdubbed flutes with hand percussion, tape
snippets and electronics.
