Commissioned by Beirut Art Center in the framework of Micro-commissions no. 4:

The patch built for this piece using Max/MSP detects transient sounds from gathered audio recordings of protestors banging on pots, rails and metal sheets during the 2019-2020 popular uprising.. Impacts and percussiveness were converted into computational data. These were used by the system that controls this sound piece, to trigger and manipulate low frequency sounds, emerging from transducers placed on Beirut Art Center’s bridge. Here, low frequencies as the ones with the longest wavelength, outlive any event as they travel the furthest, reaching zones where only sound and its vibrations are capable to infiltrate. Loudness was used to communicate rage and retaliation, hoping that it would reach the highly fortified governmental sites.

The Promise

Sofia Salvo has been improvising and making weird creatures with her baritone sax since long ago in Buenos Aires, Argentina. After moving to Berlin in 2019, she also began to compose her own sound collages by mixing sax, her voice, and noise recordings. Both for her live free improvisation performances and her house made tracks, she finds inspiration in everyday traumas and dreams, she needs to create to transform, and all in the end, to be able to be more present in the present time.
