Trushmix 238 presents Sanctuary in the mix!
After their move from Australia, Sanctuary have been immersed in the Berlin scene for close to a decade, co-hosting the former Altered Soul Experiment nights and founding their label, Life Classics. The label started as a home for their edits, then later branched out into a mix series and club residency at OHM.

For Trushmix they made a one hour and forty minutes mix. House, deep tech and late 90´s top early 00´s on the menu. Loaded with firm favourites and a number of tunes we've been bumping in the clubs over the last few months. This one hits like a warm breeze so turn up the dial and roll off into the sunset.

Exclusive to the blog this Friday, comes Mr. Scruff’s extensive set recorded last week at Jæger. It was the legendary DJ’s second visit in as many years and G-Ha & Olanskii were there again to welcome him to their residency and offer the keys to our basement for the entire night. 

Settling into the basement, Mr. Scruff stayed the duration of the night, opening the floor and taking his audience on a journey through the weird and wonderful mind of Mr. Scruff. Nothing is left uncharted in Mr.Scruff’s expansive musical universe, with a varied, yet distinct approach to genre and style that has become his trademark over his considerable career.

You can hear Mr. Scruff plot a course through the night, but he’s clearly moving with the mood and the energy of the room. A stint focussing on the sounds of Reggae and Hip Hop might follow Disco and then transform into Jazz, the experience of the veteran DJ showing a hand in the seamless soundtrack he creates from beginning to end.

Listen back to a live recording from our booth with Skatebård. A week ago the Norwegian DJ stopped off at g-HA & Olanskii’s Frædag and laid down an eclectic, energetic mix in the only way he can. 2 hours of pure Skatebård ensues, with elements of House, Disco and Balearic milling around energetic 4-4 beats.

There’s a stark correlation to his own work, and even when he is not playing something from his own extensive back catalogue of original material, remixes and edits, the music is transported to the vast reaches of the cosmic realm on a bed of eighties synthesisers and galloping sequences.

Skatebård’s transitions from one tracks to the next are a marvel to behold, and going from synthetic Disco, to Synth Wave to nu-disco, there’s a very eccentric and idiosyncratic thread weaving itself through the entire set. It’s the perfect start to the weekend.

Joachim Krüger is one of the most dedicated DJs in Oslo’s music scene. He’s completely immersed himself into every aspect of the culture since hitting the decks and approaches Techno, House, Electro and beyond with the assiduity of an eternal music student. His record collection is vast and extensive, and is constantly growing with regular trips to Berlin and visits to Filter Musikk. He applies his savant-like knowledge of the contemporary electronic music landscape to travel the road less travelled in his own unique idiom through his selections.

His sets can go anywhere from dissonant, experimental ambience to ephemeral, deep House with a sincere investment in the substance of every track he plays. As one half of K³, Krüger and Kompressorkanonen harness the breadth of their combined experience and knowledge to draw a red thread between the past and the present in electronic club music as their tastes and selections converge on the margins of the dance floor. On his own, Krüger is a regular fixture on Oslo’s DJ circuit and plays almost every weekend at places like Jaeger, Mir, Kafé Hærverk and Villa alongside other kindred spirits like Jan Mayan, DJ Hooker and Kompressorkanonen and when he’s not playing music, he’s either on the dance floor or buying more records.

When he stepped up to the Jæger mix it was just after the Hjemme Med Dama weekender, where he had played at Hærverk the night before alongside some of the DJ luminaries mentioned previously. He stepped into the Sunday slot with a bag of records that he feels “deserves to be heard but that might not be so easy to come across.” Digging deep through the somber and the experimental aspects of Techno, breakbeat, Electro and ambient music, Krüger plays in the lush sinewy textures and polyrhythmic percussion from labels like Hypnus, Spazio Disponible and artists like Neel and Luigi Tozzi. 

It’s a deep, ornate mix from Krüger with immersive textures that play on elements of melancholy and a pensive sombreness without ever falling into despair. The contrast between deep penetrating percussion and the effervescent melodic parts, keep the mix from disappearing into a deep dark void.

Helene Rickhard has been making synth waves across Oslo over the past two years. After g a break from DJing, she’s taken up the reins again, with DJ sets that have set her apart from the rest of a scene. With a penchant for enchanting melodies crafted from ancient electronic circuits and a primal rhythmic instinct, she’s garnered a reputation as one of Oslo’s more idiosyncratic DJs. 

Eighties synth wave, minimal wave, new world ambient and cosmic disco constitute her DJ sets with her unique flair for the unusual and esoteric underpinning her sets. She’s been a regular fixture at Jaeger since returning to the booth, and after some coercing, we finally get her on the Jaeger Mix.

Playing to the context, Rickhard creates a tempered mood, going from some exotic ambience to lethargic rhythms and vintage synthesiser sounds coaxed from drum machines. Often quirky, and completely mesmerising, Rickhard’s set skates through an alternative narrative of early electronica, and thrives in the more obscure corners of early synthesiser music. 

It’s a mix that translates well into the recorded format where its enigmatic charm really comes to the fore. The Jaeger mix comes a week before Helen Rickhard is set to join us for the Boiler Room weekender, where she’ll open up the floor in the afternoon on the Saturday, leading us into the second day of the weekender.

The jaeger mix returns! It’s a new and improved version, including live acts, live streaming and of course the recorded mix sessions by some of Oslo’s most enduring and hotly anticipated DJs and producers. Moving to select Wednesdays, the Jaeger mix or Æ Mix  finds a new home with resident DJ Ivaylo at the helm of his residency once again. Living beyond the immediate and documenting Jaeger’s sound, the Jaeger Mix series is a club night and a recorded mix series. Ivaylo programmes a journey into the deepest recesses of club music and beyond with selected guests, a Kodak moment in time of club music in Oslo.
