But fear not because the magic lives in this playlist in all it's original glory. So come and rediscover days gone by with a trip down an Arthouse memory lane. There's some absolute cracking mixes in here so sit back, relax and let the vibes fondle you sexually.

Come with your olde uncle Slaggy on a voyage to the Land of the Deep where the wild Slagbats roam. You'll need a head lamp, shovel, hammer(in case shit gets nasty) and of course...a towel. But be warned if you're looking for an all night rave this mix is not the one for you, over the course of the last 6 weeks or so it's slowly taken over my life and evolved in to what is now an unapologetically heads down, elbows up tear-jerker of a ride that I hope you enjoy.

Slagbat - Voyage To The Land Of The Deep

Despite a flurry of technical issues this mix lives on. It was recorded in the Apartment of Sin and we were honoured to have it air on Matt Pond's fantastic MHYH Deepsystems radio show on 16/09/2013. Sadly the archive from the live show was lost forever because the signal kept dropping but here is our hour as it was recorded on that emotional dusty September weekend.

The mix is rough round the edges but warm on the inside, like a McDonalds apple bake. It was hustled together over one long weekend as me and Kris got back to grips with playing music together after a summer of moving out, tears and limited record purchases. Whilst it may not be our smoothest mix it has already found a place in our hearts and hopefully you'll hold it close to your chest and whisper to it gently. It may also be one of the most honest representations of Jagger and the Bat early doors at Arthouse where we try to lull you onto the dancefloor with tender loving care.

Jagger and the Bat - Deepsystems Radio Show Guest Mix

This is a mix we did for a Berlin radio show but it never made it to the air so about 8 months later we thought fuck it and have decided to upload it.

It's got more purpose and techno than any of our previous mixes not to mention enough balloon tunes to send you into the stratosphere. So grab yourself a towel, some canisters, your favourite dispenser and get ready to buzz.

Jagger and the Bat - Where Deflated Balloons Lie

It's been a long time since I posted a mix but after a [mostly] enjoyable battle I was finally able to put something together that I'm really happy with and excited to share.

I had wanted to do something a little slower for a long long time but never managed to see it through. Then about about 4 weeks ago I decided to dedicate myself to the task and spent a few hours each day over a weekend going through all of my records, picking out anything that I could get to roughly the speed I wanted and then tried to figure it out from there. And try I did. The end result, I hope you'll agree, is a slow burning backroom teaser for those looking to escape the madness of the main room and spend a little quality time with their strange uncle Slagbat. A cheeky stomper, you might say.

I would also like to give a big ups to my amazing friends who over the last 12 months recommended some of the albums that I found tracks on for this this mix. Also a big bark out to The House of Dog for being the best darn record shop/dog house there is.

Jagger and the Bat - A Token Goodbye

And now for something slightly different - but also something we're going to be doing more of too: Muzan is proud to present SBat's opening set from our Subterra party at Osaka's Upsidedown last month. 
SBat began the night right, slowly sinking us in deep with choice choice atmospherics and hypnotizing beats. The party that followed was one to remember and we're delighted to present our listeners with a glimpse of that night.

SBat - Subterra - Live at Upsidedown 17.06.23

This set was recorded live on the night opening from 11pm - 1am for Subterra, something I hope will become a regular thing in Osaka (and hopefully Tokyo). It was a truly amazing night to be a part of and something I spent a lot of time thinking about and getting records together that I hoped I could piece together on the night to suck people in and set the scene for DJ Morita, Lene Andreasen and yu1 (who all played amazingly). The mix is of course a bit rough around the edges, a couple of times I zigged when I planned to zag but hopefully that adds to the charm and the journey as a whole is one you'll enjoy. I know I certainly enjoyed being there and listening back to it brings back memories of what was an incredible night that I won't soon forget.

2nd Hour: Sbat

Recorded in my Tokyo apartment on a couple of 1200s, a lone XDJ and my cherished FF4000 mixer, the mix was slowly put together over the course of a couple of months as I went through almost all of my collection trying to find the right records (old and new). I've always been a big fan of DJs that can keep chugging from one 100bpm obscure number to the next, all the while making all everything sound like it belongs together (e.g. Andrew Weatherall in full backroom swing) and I really wanted to try and create my own version of that where you're taken through different styles, almost without realising (I hope), but whilst keeping the focus on a late night/early morning stomp in the backroom of some weird Tokyo after hours club you probably should have left ages ago...but you didn't...and you still have a few more hours in you.

Gated Podcast 57 // SBat Part 2 // February 2024

Muzan Editions is honored to welcome SBat once more to our growing collection of mixes and sets by friends near and far. For this installment, we present SBat's ambient set at the wonderful Liminal Dreams party in Tokyo (2023.12.10). SBat conjures up a shimmering dreamscape of sounds that warps seamlessly between genre and mood, guiding the listener through nostalgic rememberances, glistening electronic futures, and hazy mirages that elude categorization. We recommend getting very comfortable and organizing some proper listening conditions before drifting off (and drifting deep) into this one.

We'd like to thank the Liminal Dreams crew for signing off on our use of Sbat's set. LD has a special place in the hearts of us here at Muzan. Not only are they an integral part of the flourishing ambient scene in Tokyo, but were kind enough to invite Endurance to their very first event - and Dérive to their latest party last month! Their lineups are always incredible, with past special guests including artists like Sunju Hargun, Chris SSG, Sapphire Slows, and Jane Fitz - just to name a few. Jagger and the Bat - Business Times and Business Lines (GCW Radio Guest Mix)

This is a solo mix by that was recorded early in 2011 and moved from my old solo SoundCloud page. It was done one dusty Saturday afternoon with no pre-planning or thought of ever putting it online (at the time). I've always been a bit obsessed with trying to give a mix a distinct sound throughout and a flow that takes you somewhere without even realising it (I'm pretty sure that makes sense), which is something I felt I hadn't achieved up until this point.  So in summary, If you don't like this mix then make sure you never mention it in front of me because I will slap you round the face with a big wet haddock before crying in the corner.

At the time of recording this I was big in to the likes of the Inland Knights, Da Sunlounge and allllll that vibe. It is nothing like anything I play now but an enjoyable ride nonetheless and I still like most of the tracks on it (but not quite all). I'd call it a cheeky heads down number with a...shall we say... old Nottingham 'ouse sound (or there abouts). It does admittedly go a bit...err...dubious around 45 mins for around 10 minutes but I'm sure you can push through that till the end.

23 months after moving to Tokyo here is my first mix recorded straight off the [slag]bat one rainy afternoon in Tokyo in my apartment. It's a deep bum tickler compiled almost completely from second hand records I've picked up in Tokyo (and a couple of new releases...albeit of old music). It'll crawl up your spine like a dry sake and whisper seductively in to the back of your brain. So sit down and relax, Slaggy B's gotcha covered for the next hour.

This is a mix I did in 2019 for the excellent Skew Whiff night and KMAH radio show as hosted by Dr Joseph and I like to think of it as a sneaky little stealth acid  tickler. Highly recommended to be listened to by the pool but failing that indoors on a rainy day should work just fine (just be sure  to crank the heating up).

Here's a mix we recorded especially for Jane Fitz and her amazing DirtySounds Session radio show that goes out on myhouseyourhouse.net every Monday night from 10pm. The mix was aired on 11/02/2013 and was recorded live around November...we think. 

It was made for the radio with love and rest assured no vinyl was inappropriately touched during the recording, not in a sexual way anyway. We mixed it not long after another show we did for Greta Cottage and wanted to make sure it didn't sound the same. So Kris and I dug out some house bombs, slammed a couple of espressos, dropped a Walt J record right at the beginning and went from there.

We recommend listening to it between the hours 10 and 11 at night, preferably on a Monday, but failing that brew up some fair trade coffee and let the sex music take hold.
