Siree Raag, Fifth Mehl:

sabhae thok paraapathae jae aavai eik hath |
All things are received if the One is obtained.

janam padhaarath safal hai jae sachaa sabadh kath |
The precious gift of this human life becomes fruitful when one chants the True Word of the Shabad.

gur thae mehal paraapathae jis likhiaa hovai math |1|
One who has such destiny written on his forehead enters the Mansion of the Lord's Presence, through the Guru. ||1||

maerae man eaekas sio chith laae |
O my mind, focus your consciousness on the One.

eaekas bin sabh dhandh hai sabh mithiaa mohu maae |1| rehaao |
Without the One, all entanglements are worthless; emotional attachment to Maya is totally false. ||1||Pause||

lakh khuseeaa paathisaaheeaa jae sathigur nadhar karaee |
Hundreds of thousands of princely pleasures are enjoyed, if the True Guru bestows His Glance of Grace.

nimakh eaek har naam dhaee maeraa man than seethal hoe |
If He bestows the Name of the Lord, for even a moment, my mind and body are cooled and soothed.

jis ko poorab likhiaa thin sathigur charan gehae |2|
Those who have such pre-ordained destiny hold tight to the Feet of the True Guru. ||2||

safal moorath safalaa gharree jith sachae naal piaar |
Fruitful is that moment, and fruitful is that time, when one is in love with the True Lord.

dhookh santhaap n lagee jis har kaa naam adhaar |
Suffering and sorrow do not touch those who have the Support of the Name of the Lord.

baah pakarr gur kaatiaa soee outhariaa paar |3|
Grasping him by the arm, the Guru lifts them up and out, and carries them across to the other side. ||3||

thaan suhaavaa pavith hai jithai santh sabhaa |
Embellished and immaculate is that place where the Saints gather together.

toee this hee no milai jin pooraa guroo labhaa |
He alone finds shelter, who has met the Perfect Guru.

naanak badhaa ghar thehaa jithai mirath n janam jaraa |4|6|76|
Nanak builds his house upon that site where there is no death, no birth, and no old age. ||4||6||76||

Guru Arjan Dev Ji or Guru Arjun Dev Ji (Punjabi: ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜੁਨ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ) (15 April 1563 -- 30 May 1606) was the fifth of the Ten Gurus of Sikhism. He was born in Goindval, Punjab, India, the youngest son of Guru Ram Das and Bibi Bhani. He became the Guru of the Sikhs on 1 September 1581 after the death of his father Guru Ram Das. Guru Arjan Dev died in Lahore, Punjab, (now in Pakistan). .

Guru Arjan was head of Sikhism for a quarter of a century and accomplished a lot during his regime. He completed the construction of Amritsar and founded other cities such as Taran Taran and Kartarpur. He constructed a Baoli at Lahore. The most important work of Arjan Dev was the compilation of Adi Granth. He collected all the work of the first four Gurus and dictated it in the form of verses in 1604. It is, perhaps, the only book of a scriptural nature which still exists in the form first published (a hand-written manuscript) by the Guru. It and the Guru Granth Sahib which includes the writing of the later Gurus have managed to avoid the embellishments, additions and alterations that have plagued the original writing of other more ancient religious texts.
