Rizla Ops joins the NHS orbit with his debut EP release 'Aphid' - An offering of functional, mechanical crawlers that hit disparate BPMs and creep into the territories of many genres of club music that predominantly hail from the shores of the UK. The brief collection highlights a generous dose of maximalism and pairs this with a microcosm of jittering, insectoid syncopation. The steady march throughout is definite; pacey, systematic rhythms are the focal point of the cohesive selection of tracks that make up this impressive foray into the world of collectivised paired dance tracks.

Matthew emphasises the magnification of the world that lives in between the cracks of our existence through this collection; he examines the harshness as an inevitable aspect of nature with a scathing and uncompromising lens.

Featuring a collaboration with Amity Club/NHS affiliate on 'Sunk' & remix by Somatic Rituals affiliate Mafou of 'Aphid'.

“Anclaje” es el tercer trabajo en solitario del productor y dj valenciano norim. Sus dos cortes se sitúan entre la pertenencia y el extrañamiento, sirviendo como medio para conectar con el cuerpo y abandonar el plano racional.

Es por ello que, tanto “Cruzado” como “Tendido”, simbolizan un oasis suburbano en medio de bloques de cemento y asfalto: compacto y sin embargo liviano. Pensados desde y para el soundsystem; constituyen dos herramientas fundamentales para lxs amantes del Dub/Bass y las líneas de bajo densas y cadenciosas.

“Cruzado” es el inicio de un descenso forzado a la corporalidad. Acompañado de unos toques sutiles de instrumentación etérea y sirenas, los drums espaciados se entremezclan con un bajo potente que no necesita competir para ganarse el puesto de protagonista principal.

“Tendido” nos mete de lleno en un ritmo poderosamente sincopado, atravesando valles y pendientes sin dejarnos más alternativa que la de “bailar bajito”, aproximadamente a la altura del subgrave que apunta directamente a las entrañas.

“Anclaje” is the third solo release from Valencian producer and DJ norim, composed of two cuts situated somewhere between pulls of belonging and the pushes of estrangement where the rational mind can be left behind.

Symbolising something of a suburban oasis amidst a jungle of concrete and asphalt, “Cruzado'' and “Tendido” are compact yet light pockets of sound. These essential tools for lovers of the intersection between Dub and Bass are packed with pressurised basslines and rhythms made with a soundsystem in mind.

Corporeal opening track “Cruzado” begins and forces us to descend into our bodies as touches of ethereal instrumentals and sirens move us through spaced-out drums and a powerful bassline that takes the lead in the composition.

Visceral cut “Tendido” then immerses us in a powerfully syncopated rhythm, traversing peaks and troughs of sound that leave our dancing bodies no choice but to sink down to a level approximately at the height of a subwoofer.

'ECVA002', aka '5 Years of Echo Train' is a newly announced compilation by the Ōtautahi/Christchurch label of the same name. The imprint is celebrating its fifth year in rotation with a collection of tracks contributed by those who have already featured in its half decade life span.

One such contributor is Jagā, Echo Train's founder & conductor. 'Beam Trace' is a spacious showcase of Jagā's evolution not only as a label head, but a producer too. Rhythmic percussion is met by sci-fi melodies and breathy vocal samples, pushed along by electro-inspired key stabs.

Of the track, Jagā shared:

"The core of the song is from a dream I had aboard a distant space station. A pervasive vocal features throughout, which channels the crew's voices across the ship's intercom. The song unfolds through three emotional phases - a descent into darkness, a brief moment of uneasy stillness and an overwhelming intensity.

It all makes sense to me when listening, haha. It's always fascinating to hear how others perceive my art."

The release is in part dedicated to Lui Mill, a collaborator & friend of Echo Trains who sadly passed away last year. "We are honoured to have his incredible talent featured on this release," Echo Train shared.

'ECVA002, 5 Years of Echo Train' is available via Echo Train's Bandcamp & a very limited number of cassette tapes this Thursday, May 8.
