Pour bien débuter cette année 2023, Egregore Collective revient avec un second vinyle sur le label principal. Cette fois, nous plongeons au plus profond d’un océan d’accords réverbérés, de spirales d’échos et de tonalités apaisantes. Pour cette nouvelle incursion dans le domaine du vinyle, au titre approprié de “Tones and Echoes”, nous avons fait appel à 5 spécialistes de la dub musique sous ses formes les plus profondes.

C’est l’allemand Another Channel qui ouvre le bal. Avec des apparitions régulières sur des labels très respectés dans le genre tels que Moonshine Recordings ou encore Modern Hypnosis, il entame les choses en douceur avec une ballade dub apaisante.

Vient ensuite le viennois Mantsche, accompagné de son partenaire Bishop, avec un riddim plus profond, impactant et mélancolique, qui culmine en un second drop stepper qui vous fera skanker pour sûr.

La clôture de la face A est assurée par Masis, collaborateur récent d’Another Channel sur Moonshine Recordings. Il nous amène dans un registre plus profond et minimaliste avec un dub lo-fi ponctué de vocaux qui nous rappellent la destination finale de cette sortie ainsi que le titre du morceau : “Mount Zion”.

Sur la seconde face nous avons un roster 100% Toulousain, avec en premier l’énigmatique Stefan Dubs. Pilier de la scène illégale et underground de la ville rose avec le collectif Folklore, il décline une fois de plus sa production méditative, saturée, et parfois hypnotique, une ode aux fêtes dans le maquis.

On termine avec notre Stacktrace, qui entre deux bangers dancehall nous livre un track progressif, étincelant de shakers cliquetants et roulements de percussions, et comme à son habitude culminant en un second drop singulier avec une mélodie de bassline qui vous restera en tête.

Kicking off 2023, Egregore Collective is back with a second vinyl release on the main label. This time, we’re diving deep, spiraling down in a sea of reverberated chords and soothing noises. For this new foray in the physical realm, appropriately titled “Tones and Echoes”, we called upon 5 specialists of the deepest forms of dub music. 

Opening the record is Germany’s very own Another Channel. With regular appearances on respected labels of the genre such as Moonshine Recordings or Modern Hypnosis, he delivers a laid back dub ballad to kick things off smoothly.

Following up is Vienna based Mantsche, tagging along his mate Bishop with a deeper, stomping and more melancholic sounding riddim, that slowly builds up to a powerful stepper second drop that’s guaranteed to make you skank.

Closing the A side of the record is Masis, a previous collaborator of Another Channel on Moonshine Recordings. He takes us on a deeper tip with a dusty, minimalistic and lo-fi sounding dub punctuated by vocals chanting the name of the track as well as the final destination of this journey : “Mount Zion”.

On the other side, we have an all-Toulouse roster, starting with the enigmatic Stefan Dubs. Essential component of the illegal and underground scene here in Toulouse with the collective Folklore, he once again showcases his trademark meditative, saturated, and sometimes hypnotic aesthetic with another ode to forest raves in the maquis.

Rounding off the record is our own Stacktrace, taking a break from his dancehall bangers to go back to his roots and sign off on a highly progressive tune, sparkled with clicking shakers and drum rolls, and as always building into a very different second drop with a bassline melody that will stick to your head.

Multifunctional cyber glasses were not going to be a part of the spy arsenal any time soon, unless absolutely necessary. Spacelunch’s invention, which was waiting to be tested, ironically became a message through time to himself. A mess at work, as well as burglary, were commonplace even in emergencies. The piles of archive boxes did not bother Cat, who was skimming the information downloaded from a micro-SD.

"The tables with the estimates of operational characteristics – not it. The ballistic calculations – not it again... Found it!" — the tail rising with joy became an indicator of hope for a successful rescue operation. The formula of the superspeed elixir was looking seductively at him. All that was left to do was to upload the acquired data and analyse it upon returning to the lab. The silent jubilation was interrupted by the ear-splitting wail of the siren signalling that there was no room for mistake.

A sonic dive into the deep earthy textures of a rich dub collage, fortified with swirls, air and space, seamlessly dancing around an earthy call & response lead, encased in a rich coloured chamber. True soundsystem flavour and real earth music!

Cela faisait un certain temps que nous n’avions pas sorti de dubstep sur Egregore Collective, et qui de mieux placé pour la tâche que le producteur Parisien Argo.

Tout droit venu de la banlieue et désormais installé dans la capitale, cela fait presque une décennie qu’Argo se taille une place de choix dans le paysage dubstep français, et en est désormais un des noms les plus reconnus. Les fans du genre seront sans doute familier·es de son travail très prolifique, reconnu par les labels les plus respectés de la scène tels que Sentry, Artikal ou encore le sous label de White Peach Yellow Flower.

Sur les talons de son album acclamé sur Encrypted Audio, il signe 4 tracks qui témoignent de sa versatilité quand il s’agit d’explorer le spectre entourant la bass musique à 140 bpm avec son approche de beatmaker, son univers sombre et mélancolique ponctué de samples de jeux vidéo. Pour compléter l’EP, Pardon transforme le puissant morceau titre ‘Coupable’ en un remix incisif, futuriste et grimey.

It’s been a while since we put out some proper dubstep on Egregore Collective, and who would be better suited to the task than parisian producer Argo.

Hailing from the banlieue of Paris and now currently based in the capital, Argo has spent almost a decade earning himself a reputation as one of the most recognizable French 140 producers. Fans of the genre should be familiar with his extremely prolific output, having signed on well respected labels such as Sentry, Artikal, or White Peach’s Yellow Flower sublabel.

Hot on the heels of his acclaimed LP on Encrypted Audio, he delivers a 4-tracker that showcases his versatility when it comes to exploring the spectrum around 140 bpm music with his trademark beatmaker approach, dark and moody cuts punctuated by video game samples. To complement the release, friend of the collective Pardon takes the heavy hitting title track ‘Coupable’ and turns it into a sharp, futuristic and grimey sounding remix.

Under the guidance of Monkeytek, man behind the Portland/Oregon based mixtape label pdxindub, Carhartt WIP Radio travels in dub. Formed in 2006 with the aim to release mixtapes from artists and dub selectors based in Portland, the label has since grown to reflect an international family of musicians and DJs, with mixes full of tracks based around electronic dub and reggae music. Their artist roster includes DJs and artists such as Alter Echo, Shockman, Samizdat, Gulls, Hieronymus and Xoki or the label head Monkeytek. Under the umbrella of dub, Monkeytek also launched the sublabel PDXINDUBTING! in 2014 to release cassette LPs of original material from artists out of the pdxindub family. Furthermore label boss Monkeytek also works closely with other labels like ZamZam Sounds and Khaliphonic, sourcing out fresh and unheard material for special vinyl only releases. Beside his label work he is also a DJ and host, throwing sound system parties around his hometown of Portland. For Carhartt WIP Radio Monkeytek mixed a show full of released and unreleased deep absorbing bass tunes.
