Some patch notes from Richard: 

"I was using the Control Forge to go into 8 stage modulation CV shapes, stepping slowly in random order to the Amp decay Pitch etc on the BD9, can get really interesting, made for some serious abstract weirdness. Love it.

I ran the BD9 through the new black hole DSP module by Erica Synths, and the Mutable Instruments Clouds running a unreleased firmware, and finally some Rainmaker X 2 for the snare processing, pitch delays. There is also a bit of Z-DSP, Eventide H9, AD Reverb, OWL, and ErbVerb too. Lots of SFX going on this one"

Recorded almost entirely on a Korg Monologue + spring reverb / LN76 (TR-08 on some ditties also). I've not made the other volumes yet, but when i do, maybe i'll put it out as some sort of expensive compendium or do a limited dubplate run or something else annoying like that? Jahtari Promo Mixtape for SKANK IT UP Paris

Just 4 modules! Basically this is the same patch as the one used in this video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DV34aonyr_w - this was recorded just a few minutes after the video. During this recording I changed quite a few of the knobs on the fly. Basic patch - wogglebug (modulated by smooth cv) clock out into the Klee Sequencer. Klee A and B out are driving the Buchla 258 clone, one cv per side, the 258 is also cross modulating itself. The out of the top half of the 258 is going into side B of the Korgasmatron III filter in bandpass  mode (I think), which is being frequency modulated by the A+B out from the Klee. There's quite a bit of resonance on the Korgasmatron, so it's adding pitches too, sometimes. And the signal is being panned with a signal from the stepped out from the wogglebug.

In Hour 1 as part of our 30th anniversary week, we welcome Kevin Martin aka The Bug, who first appeared on Solid Steel in 1998 as part of ICE and you can hear this archive mix at SolidSteel.net . He told us;
"Having been a dub nerd for so many years, my opinion of post ’Sleng Teng’ cyber-reggae was foolishly blinkered in the mid 90’s, but when i heard the ‘Streetsweeper Riddim’ by Steely & Clevie  = game over… My opinion of Bashment/Ragga/Dancehall was immediately reversed upon contact with that one sick riddim series, as Burro Banton fiercely chanted “Boom Wha Dis” mercilessly, or Capleton caught fire on ‘Final Assassin’..
At that time, as a resident of North West London, resistance was futile, and i was fully hooked on trips to Dub Vendor or various hole in the wall black wax emporiums in the Harlesden area, as i became uncontrollably addicted to buying waves of 7” riddims that were dropping relentlessly from Jamaica.
This mix is my tip of the hat to the incredible producers that emerged from Ja’s Dancehall scene…Ppl like Dave Kelly, Steely & Clevie, Lenky etc were sonic futurists to me, and their alien arrangements  indelibly marked my ears and my own style of production, and still to this day…Their bionic bogle fuel, some of which is included here, sounds as fresh to me now as it did upon release….
But also, it’s been my aim for years, since naming myself The Bug and devoting myself to sound system culture, to try and develop my own mutant dancehall vocabulary. A quest, that begun with my Razor X label and album ‘Pressure’, via my ACID RAGGA releases, and still shows no sign of halting, as i chase the holy grail of constructing a new style of raggamuffin Sci-Fi. Ive included prototypes and demos of what will form future Bug releases here, as a sketchbook for listeners and myself, and a clear sign of intent, and to show how much i still worship Jamaica’s incredible musical innovations.
I wanted this tribute to Jamaica’s electronic legacy, to reflect a past, present and future of bashment mutations. And right now, with so many great producers like Equiknoxx, Epic B, Stereotyp, Mr. Mitch, Low Jack, Errorsmith, Still  etc etc all fighting the fight for future shock dancehall, it seemed the right time to put together a mix like this one…And as i used to regularly tune into Coldcut’s tripped out SOLID STEEL radio transmissions many many moons ago, its a pleasure to deliver my first mix for Solid Steel since the mixes me and JK Flesh delivered as ICE in the late nineties. Solid Steel has always encouraged freedom of movement and surprises in their choices, and i wanted to ensure i did something special to celebrate the diversity of the show down the years"

Dougherty Island - 120º W, 59º S
Captain Dougherty of the English whaling ship James Stewart, discovers the island in 1841 and describes it as 5–6 miles long with a high bluff to the northeast and a valley in the middle covered in snow. Dougherty's discovery is confirmed by English captains in 1859, and 1891. Sailing through the area during Shackleton's Antarctic expedition of 1908–1909, Captain Davis, Chief Officer of the Nimrod suggests that fog banks or icebergs had deceived Dougherty and his successors. Nonetheless, a license granting “exclusive rights to occupy the island for the purposes of removing guano and other fertilising substances” is issued to the Norwegian whaler HJ Bull by the British Government in 1913.
