I recently moved back home to Slovakia from the UK and I am trying to understand what the concept of home means to me and to others. Sometimes I sense it in the most unlikely places. This mix contains pieces of music that try to piece “home” together for me - either on a cultural, linguistic, or purely sonic level. I hope it does for others too.

Adela Mede (born 1995) is a Slovak-Hungarian artist and composer of experimental electronic music. She creates music that explores intimacy and spiritual growth through minimalist soundscapes and vocal work. Her work creates environments and spaces of reflection and ponder relating to her areas of interest. She tries to incorporate the three languages she speaks (english, slovak, hungarian) to explore the vocal shifts attached to memories that these languages bring up.

«Недавно я вернулась из Великобритании в Словакию, и сейчас я пытаюсь осознать, что является домом – для меня и для других. Иногда я чувствую дом в самых неожиданных местах. Микс включает в себя музыкальные композиции, которые, как мне кажется, собирают “дом” по кусочкам – на культурном, лингвистическом, или на чисто звуковом уровне. Я надеюсь, для кого-то они делают то же самое».

Адела Меде (род. 1995) — словацко-венгерская художница и композиторка экспериментальной электронной музыки. Через минималистичные саундскейпы и вокал в её творчестве исследуется интимность и духовные трансформации — музыкантка создаёт среды и пространства для размышлений о том, что входит в эти области её интереса. Адела инкорпорирует в своё творчество три языка, на которых она говорит (английский, словацкий, венгерский), чтобы исследовать голосовые сдвиги, закреплённые за воспоминаниями, которые вызывают эти языки.

This track came about over a period of time, adding little riffs of piano and finally, Simon creating an electronic 'ground'. It's a bit of a collage. I wondered if it was going to work at all. Now, I like it.

Dougherty Island - 120º W, 59º S
Captain Dougherty of the English whaling ship James Stewart, discovers the island in 1841 and describes it as 5–6 miles long with a high bluff to the northeast and a valley in the middle covered in snow. Dougherty's discovery is confirmed by English captains in 1859, and 1891. Sailing through the area during Shackleton's Antarctic expedition of 1908–1909, Captain Davis, Chief Officer of the Nimrod suggests that fog banks or icebergs had deceived Dougherty and his successors. Nonetheless, a license granting “exclusive rights to occupy the island for the purposes of removing guano and other fertilising substances” is issued to the Norwegian whaler HJ Bull by the British Government in 1913.
