Thanks to one of my valued SC friends @naturesautonomus , i encouraged myself and took all what it takes and signed the online producing course with Andrew Huang on this learnmonthly.com site.

Very tight deadlines to meet and alot of new stuff to learn. I really recommend it! Its exhausting but sooo worth it.

This is the first out of three tracks which i have to produce while doing this course. I hope you enjoy it as much as i "enjoyed" going for a very crazy alien invasion listening experience.

You can think of it in many different ways, but the main idea behind that, which kinda evolved during this brand new production and arranging and mixing and mastering process, is, that the aliens kinda funk their way from one capital to the next and just erase us. 

The peak in the song where the crazy additional synth joins the fun - you kinda want to imagine all those little nasty aliens up in the ship celebrating their desctructive hovering "march" to erase all humankind. Ain't that fun?! Haha!

Invasion

Andrew Huangs learnmonthly Song #2. This thing pushed me to a place where i never thought i might end up. Recording dozens of samples, slicing, eqing, manipulating stuff in various directions, going full crazy with delay reverb, building out of the scratch a synth patch for base and chords and tweaked up to a point where the stereo field does not longer exist , where there were just sonic waves everywhere in my head......

I really hope you enjoy this piece more than the moments where i felt so dead and exhausted and empty inside.

As this being some kind of private work - i called it homework, as i took this baby from home, where i recorded the samples, on my fiances laptop in to my holidays. built like crazy while we were on vacation...... but again... i learned so much like mastering my daw more and more and tons of other stuff. im still thankful that i push myself so hard this month. for me, for you, just for the love of and for music <3

-recorded about 160 samples with my zoom h2n
-took me *10 hours to slice, eq and categorize
-mostly recorded kitchen stuff, about 80-90% 
-wasted 3 nights going too big with too many rythm variations , cried,                           dumped the old sh#t and started over (funny how pressured creativity works..)
-aged drastically during this #2 project
-big cred and thanks to the love of my life for supporting as well as serving gallons of tea to ease my exhausted mind and body

This track is inspired by the blade runner universe, a deep and dark atmosphere with a touch of something ethnic going on. I used several layers of synths to convey a truly cinematic mood. Thanks for listening!

THE MAGIC FOX

Background

This is my take on an old traditional song. The earliest reference I've discovered is around 1847.  It supposedly had other titles 'The Grinders' and 'The Saddle on the Right Horse'  

It is a vivid description of the lot of Sheffield Grinders, working and often dying early in life due to their trade. The 'Grinding Hull's' mentioned in the lyrics were grim places, full of particles of metal and dust from the grinding wheels. Historical evidence suggests boys were often apprenticed from nine to twelve years of age.

Through my working career I was employed in the Steel Industry engaged in scientistic work and environmental research, quite a bit of it related to occupational health problems, So it is no surprise to me and very fitting that I wanted to get this song recorded. As a Sheffield lad born and bred it connects for me I guess. 

Apparently a version of this traditional song was recorded by 'The Ian Campbell Group' in 1972 and the band 'Afterhours' from their eponymous cassette only album from 1988. After hearing the 'Afterhours' 1988 version, I decided to work up a DADGAD guitar arrangement of my own.  Here is the result.

Instrumentation and Arrangement

I wanted a simple arrangement for this song as really it's all about the lyrics and overall message. I used a DADGAD guitar tuning and aimed for a strum pattern that hopefully reflects the cyclical rhythmic quality of the grindstones in use.

After the main vocals was recorded I decided a bit of backing vocals would add a bit of extra spice to the overall song. Sometimes voice and guitar is all you really need. :-)

Falling Star

Composer and music producer based in Santiago, Chile.
I mix elements of modern classical, electronic and ambient music mainly. I call it "cinematic" since to me it generates imaginary spaces or images, just like movies. One of my biggest sources of inspiration are the landscapes and nature from my homeland.
