Today we are announcing the first compilation that we are putting together with artists we’re close to or a part of the movement.  For 10 years our focus has always been to provide the best and a solid ground for artists to put out their music – we are now trying a new approach and putting our name on a release to showcase our favorite producers in a collection of tracks carefully picked by the staff.

The vibe in the release is a flight mode collection of tracks before a night out or just cruising in the car on a sunny day or evening. A moment you could have before all this technology came to life was going to your friends house not knowing what to expect and i think this could describe the project pretty well. 

The focus has always been beats that vary in around 70 to 90 bpm but here we are seeing a boost in the tempo and i truly hope all of the listeners will appreciate the tracks we’ve added, the producers were introduced to the idea i mentioned above and i let them fully experiment with a style and not limit them in terms of creation.

For each of these projects in the future our aim will also be to showcase photographers, illustrators or painters to bring out and show light on people we appreciate in this scene. For this project i wanted someone i know that spends his weekends around the streets of Los Angeles taking shots of some of the most beautiful cars & crews around the area.

Intergalactic Jazz fused with Hip-Hop. Think Nujabes and Pete Rock remix a Lonnie Liston Smith album arranged by David Axelrod. We realise that's far too much name-dropping for two sentences, but it describes the direct influences and vision of UK born producer Rob Waite aka Daylight Robbery. Rob grew up in London and Frankfurt before moving to Brooklyn, New York where ‘Moons of Jupiter’ – his first album for MPM – was recorded. "The sonic identity of the music is my homage to all the amazing Jazz fusion records that came out between ‘71 and ‘74, fused with a 90’s Hip-Hop vibe I struggle to get away from. With the help of some amazing musician friends, I was able to move beyond loop-based sampling techniques and take a step towards a more free flowing Jazz focused energy.” 

The album title ‘Moons of Jupiter’ refers to the 80 known moons of Jupiter that form a satellite system called the Jovian system. 12 of these moons are visited throughout the listening experience, starting in the light, and progressively moving into darkness. The artwork has been created by Cologne-based illustrator Giza One.

Working on opposite sides of the landmass we call Canada, Vancouver/Montreal duo Potatohead People (producers Nick Wisdom & AstroLogical) have been making waves for quite some time with their signature jazzy boom-bap meets boogie inside the bassbin vibes. Called a “formidable tandem” by OkayPlayer, their sounds have been championed early on by the likes of Kaytranada, Soulection, Nightmares on Wax, Pomo, Exmag, Big Boi, and Phife Dawg. After a few early releases on Vancouver based netlabel Jellyfish Recordings, Brooklyn’s Bastard Jazz reissued their 2012 landmark Kosmichemusik EP and pressed a 7” which quickly became a collector’s item. The association landed their song “Back To My Sh*t” (featuring Frank Nitty of Frank’n’Dank) on a Powerade produced LeBron James documentary and Nick and Astro began working on a debut LP for Bastard Jazz, presented here.

Big Luxury draws from influences disparate as classic jazz, prog rock, disco, 90’s hip-hop, DJ Shadow-Era downtempo beats, alongside modern influences like the Brainfeeder crew and new electronic movements coming out of Nick Wisdom’s adopted hometown of Montreal.  What’s resulted is a finely honed, extra buttery album that effortly glides between tempos, but never loses the mood.  The album also features a whole host of guest vocalists -  J Dilla’s younger brother Illa J, legendary Canadian MC Moka Only, New Zealand’s Sorceress, and Amalia all provide contributions to the sounds within.  The album will set the tone for the duo’s big moves this year, including forthcoming collaborations with Illa J and Pomo as well as tour dates in North America and beyond. 

Big Luxury is a velvety ride through vibes and a magnificent debut for these talented young Canadians.

Dr. Dundiff (done different, @dr-dundiff) is a Hip-Hop/Neo-Soul producer based out of Louisville, KY. Producing music since 2010, most known for his collabos with Otis Junior with whom he released an EP and two albums. After last year’s  “Cool” with Otis Junior and his hip hop instrumental project “Muneybeats”, Dr. Dundiff and Jakarta team up once again for SGJAZZ, a supergroup formed by Louisville’s finest musicians.
