Back to reality, my thoughts remain in the dust.. what a burn! Thanks to all the people who danced at the Lighthouse, we had the time of our life playing for all of you.

So this is the first of two of my sets I recorded at the lighthouse at AfrikaBurn this year. It’s a very eclectic mix exploring the connections of house, disco, acid and downtempo music. I started off at around 118 bpm coming down to 90 bpm at one point. It’s not a set that I would usually play in a nightclub. There are a lot of changes and historical references in it, references to last years burn, to cosmic dancefloor moments that changed my life.. In my opinion AfrikaBurn is a place that asks for such special, emotional sets. Stuff that you can only play once a year, but ahhh how I love to play all these old gems..

Over Christmas 2014 I needed a break from recording
my album, searching online for a song I recalled from
my youth, I fell into a rabbit hole of thousands of
YouTube playlists and posts, rediscovering the songs
my friends and I would gather and listen to as
13 & 14 yr olds every Saturday in East Berlin on Radio DT64
(now Berlin's Radio Fritz).

I stumbled back to the future, collecting over 5000 songs
on YouTube, learning for the first time the artists behind
the songs we heard almost 25 years ago.

The forthcoming trilogy is the result of 18 month
of building edits from YouTube recordings and stitching
them together off-line. I could not include every song,
nor indeed even the entire tracks from this small period
until 1993, so this is my personal history of electronic
music arriving in Berlin.

This trilogy will not be sold, it was a labor of love,
born of nostalgia and made for sharing.

Fusion festival means a lot to me. Here I had this very key moment in understanding techno music years ago. So it was a big honour to come back and play a set at Bachstelzen. My partner in crime @rearte-musik joined me for the trip and since we’re on an amazing flow together right now we tag teamed for this set. So we asked ourselves what we wanted to do with this very nice slot at Saturday 9pm. The temptation was big to play a standard repertoire of 120bpm tech-house, the crowd was super ready and we would have had all the classic bangers ready. But that was what many before us had done and no challenge. What we’re currently super interested in are constant build ups. Get rid of this repeating break drop break arrangement and try to build one constant curve of energy. Sometimes this results in a very hypnotic atmosphere because the crowd get’s caught in it builds up a lot of energy but never really knows when to release it. We started of at 95 BPM and ended up at 120, Ruede Hagelstein played after us and despite my first thoughts, was a really good match to our set. Madmotormiquel took over the flow for a perfect evening. Enjoy the three set together in this row if you can.
