Press Release:
Today So-Gnar and Michal Menert unveil his first beat tape, Rust, marking the beginning of a series in collaboration with the Antimatter crew. This mixtape is a deconstructed and raw look into the birthplace of many of other full length tracks. This collection of forgotten beats seamlessly flows from beginning to end, although never originally intended as a long playing release. A representation of moments, Rust reflects on a past that seems more golden than it was.

Working on these creations between 2002 and 2006, parallel to when Menert was collaborating with Derek Vincent Smith on the multi-dimensional, Taking Up Your Precious Time, these stereo mixdowns were simply lost in the shuffle. Beats that Menert loved and continued to stumble upon for the past several years, Rust, is was compiled as a gift to his loyal fans prior to the debut of his long awaited second solo LP, Even If It Isn’t Right, slated for release on April 24th.

Sprinkled with smooth guitar riffs, sultry percussion, and velvety horns you’ll quickly pick-up on Menert’s signature style, fusing old world sounds with modern variations. Classic samples and contemporary beats exemplify why Michal’s style is so unique and sought after. Tune in, chill out and soak up the next 43 minutes of auditory exploration.

Rust: A Collection of Forgotten Hiphop Instrumentals

This track has been an ever evolving creation. This is one of my favorite current versions feat Assi Rose on a beautiful vintage 40's Accordian.

The name "Doin' Time" was inspired by our human condition. Time is money. Many of us live our lives within the confines of linear time. We focus on our pasts and our futures; rarely being fully in our present perfect moment. Our current human condition is "Doin' Time". Can you think of those moments in your human experience where all time has vanished. You were with a new lover and all of a sudden 15 hours have gone by and its felt like 5 minutes.... This track wants you to challenge your perception of time. Time is not money. Your present moment is priceless.

This track was inspired by the song "Canciones Del Corazon"  
I wanted to explore the possibility of taking one stem of a song and creating a completely new track with other people.

I emailed "Canciones Del Corazon" to my friend Guitarist Evan Effres and had him record live guitar over it.  
I used his new guitar stem and started a completely new song from scratch with the guitar as the first stem.

I then took the new song to Piano Monster David Appelbaum who added some magic keys.

The end result was Corazon De La Manzana.

A good friend and mentor said to me recently,  "The key to being a good artist is never being satisfied"
This means to always try new ways of being creative.  Always try new things, with new people.  Get uncomfortable.

‘Live at Gnomelandia’ is a 60-minute mix that incorporates unreleased versions of songs from both of Ott’s studio albums, ‘Blumenkraft’ and ‘Skylon’, as well as a special unreleased gem. Listeners familiar with ‘Blumenkraft’ and ‘Skylon’, which are often categorized as downtempo or chillout, will notice their favorite tracks transformed into upbeat grooves appropriate for the dance floor.  Reflective of the Ott Live experience, ‘Live at Gnomelandia’ is a glimpse of what you can catch this summer while Ott is on tour.

Ott Live at Gnomelandia

This is the EP I wrote on tour with Android Jones in the summer of 2011.  We traveled up and down the coast with 12 amazing visual artists blowing peoples minds!!!  I wrote this album entirely on the road in 2 months in many different interesting locations while our team project visuals on the sides of Buildings.

This is the first song from my upcoming EP collaboration with "Rising Appalachia".  If you dont know who they are, I recommend that you educate yourself swiftly as they are the JAM;  Beautiful, elegant, sultry sisters from the South.  

Leah and Chloe play Fiddle, Banjo, Guitar, and create eloquent vocal harmonies that melt my heart.  We met 4 years ago in India and have reconnected to blend our sounds together.

They compose original music as well as traditional music from around the world.  This song "Sunu" is an african/appalachian fusion piece.  

We have had several rag tag recording sessions around the US (pictures coming soon hehe) and have had some of the most fun I have ever had in my life collaborating.  The Joy I have in my heart when I create this music is inexplicable in words.  This project makes me feel bliss.  

We're working on a full live performance also which is....dare I say.... mucho legendary

Rising Appalachia and The Human Experience met many years ago on the shores of southern India. After spearheading each of their own unique musical paths, they have joined forces to birth a soulful new electro/acoustic collaboration, merging sounds from around the world in an elaborate artistic love-child of beats, voice, banjo and bass. "Soul Visions" is their first step in the long journey of bringing together electronic music and soul, folk and ballads, bass rhythms and swamp-womp in an effort to bridge worlds through aural exploration. "Soul Visions" speaks to the lover and the dance floor, the ritual holder and the song collector and the visionary and the shadow-worker... bringing deep root sounds into a highly mechanical world.
