MaJiK, born in 1989, is a Vietnamese/Chinese-American emcee who writes poetry, performs spoken word and makes Hip-Hop music. In 2003-2004, MaJiK discovered the therapeutic effects of writing and began to document his thoughts and emotions with poetry. Being heavily influenced by Hip-Hop, a typical poem would consist of 16 lined rhymes. MaJiK is inspired by a myriad of things pertaining to his life but specific Hip-Hop artists who've impacted him are Tupac Shakur, Eminem, MC Jin, Eric B. & Rakim, Lupe Fiasco, Lloyd Banks, Big K.R.I.T., Nas, Big L and Bliss N Eso just to name a few. Also a fan of spoken word, two of his favorite poets are Sarah Kay and Shane Koyczan.

In 2005, he first shared his work with an online Hip-Hop forum called Anotha.com. Surprised by the positive reaction, he continued to share and write, honing his ability. Then MaJiK began sharing his poetry with a select few of his peers after receiving encouraging feedback and in 2007 at "The Lounge", his high school's poetry competition, he performed his poetry in front of a live audience for the first time. He walked out of that auditorium with 1st place and a new confidence.

In a 4th grade assignment, MaJiK was given the task of memorizing a poem and reciting it. He did so well that he was nominated to share it in front of the whole student body in a competition called the Speech Meet where he took 1st place in his class. In his Freshman Oral Interpretation class, he was assigned to create a 5 minute script using his favorite book and perform it in class. His performance prompted the instructor to invite him to join the debate team and compete in Dramatic Interpretation. Beginning late, he would compete in almost weekly tournaments never placing but always growing and in the final tournament of the year, Novice Champs, MaJiK placed 7th out of all the freshman. It would seem as though MaJiK was destined for the stage. But it wouldn't be until his first visits to the historic open mic in Los Angeles, "Da Poetry Lounge", where he would truly fall in love with performing.

In 2009, MaJiK met his Big Bro/Mentor/Manager Sonny_B who taught him how to count beats and from then on, MaJiK would double his library of writing with rap verses in the span of 6 months. Soon enough, he began recording songs with Sonny_B released on his independent label SonnyBCreative. In 2010, MaJiK started his own open mic night, "The Spot: Poetry" in Alhambra with his poet friend A1 which lasted about 5 weeks due to a lack of funding. But through networking with artists who appeared at "The Spot" MaJiK got his first opportunity to perform in a Hip-Hop showcase "Lyrics To Go". Since then, MaJiK has continued to perform at open mic's, benefit shows, Hip-Hop shows, bars and lounges and by the end of 2012, MaJiK put out his first mixtape compilation "Random Thoughts" and on January 27, 2013 MaJiK's debut EP "Just A Thought" was released.

Through use of the English language in combination with music, MaJiK has set out to affect people one by one, ear by ear; to motivate, inspire, encourage and empower mind's to achieve greater things. The same way Hip-Hop and the power of words saved his life, he hopes that he can do the same for others. With a small but strong and loyal following, MaJiK is focused on matching work ethic and dedication with his goals and dreams.
