"Nostalgia" is Jake's first solo album, and comprises of eight of his own compositions that channel some of the finest composers of the past few centuries. Influences such as Olivier Messiaen, Larry Sitsky, Philip Glass, Igor Stravinsky and Isaac Albéniz ink through Jake's writing, often without him realising it! Being only seventeen years of age, Jake dreams to pursue a career in music and he hopes you enjoy these tunes.

Abode

Jake Amy’s "Hot Chicken" presents an entirely new and cutting-edge sub genre of jazz, fusing jazz-style melodies with noise rock textures and heavy metal energy. This composition is built from foundational Afro-Cuban rhythmic claves and African polyrhythmic language, and depicts a whirlwind of lucid chaos. "Hot Chicken" showcases what is possible when analogue and digital technologies collide.

"Hot Chicken" was written in late October 2020 by Melbourne-based pianist Jake Amy. The composition depicts Jake's journey transitioning to a vegan lifestyle. Spicy fried chicken was Jake's favourite social food. Jake is currently chicken sober.

Sensitive then explosive, Starry Skies captures an electrifying cocktail of chamber music and contemporary jazz.

At the intersection of chamber music and modern jazz, Starry Skies delineates an introspective narrative of existentialism. Through streamlined contours, this contemporary composition captures the interaction, sensitivity and reckless abandon of an emerging group fronted by Australian pianist and composer Jake Amy. Drawing inspiration from Kurt Rosenwinkel’s 'Spirit Kiss' and John Adams’s 'Eros Piano', Starry Skies propels itself from earnest contemplation towards an electrifying resolution.

Starry Skies

Recorded late 2021 in Jake's makeshift studio, 'Cascade' documents new explorations through a DnB and jungle nebulous whilst simultaneously paying homage to the pioneers of the jazz piano trio format. Boundary-pushing and adventurous, an energetic evolution transports listeners with high intensity drumming, the use of bass guitar distortion and slamming piano motifs. The piece is constructed of three extended improvised sections.

Releases on streaming platforms on November 27, 2022.

Australian nu-jazz keyboardist, producer, audio engineer, and social justice journalist Jake Amy is set to unveil their latest single, ‘Yoofee’, a powerful homage to the exhilarating spontaneity and restrained complexity of Berlin's Moses Yoofee Trio. As a non-binary and queer artist, Jake’s music is deeply influenced by their experiences with gender visibility and their advocacy for non-binary representation. Released by Amsterdam-based label Wicked Wax, Yoofee is an unapologetically raw and energetic composition, blending exceptional keyboard virtuosity with elegant drum patterns, hip-slinging bass lines, and zestful flute improvisation.

Yoofee stands as a testament to Jake’s innovative approach to music. The track merges raw energy with sophisticated jazz fusion, featuring electrifying keyboard riffs, intricate drum patterns, infectious bass lines, and dynamic flute improvisations. This single not only celebrates musical virtuosity but also embodies Jake’s personal journey as a non-binary and queer artist. Jake’s experience with gender visibility and acceptance has deeply influenced their compositional process for Yoofee. Facing challenges such as discouragement from expressing their true self wearing makeup or gender fluid clothing, Jake channels these struggles into their music. Yoofee is a reflection of their desire to break free from restrictive norms and express a spectrum of identity through their art.

“I get lost in music. Writing takes me to another place, a safe space to breathe, where I can freely express. It feels so meditative and cosy,” says Jake. “While writing Yoofee, I was reflecting on how my bubble had just been burst that morning... expressing myself through gender fluid clothing on my scheduled coffee run (wearing a pink-coloured baby tee that I looked hot AF in), was apparently contentious and I very reluctantly received a verbal blasting from two men. Positively, I understood that I shouldn't listen to what any one has to say about me as it's only their own lack of confidence at play, but the every-other-day occurrence of this happening to me had really taken its toll. That aside, Yoofee is about how grateful I am for the people who appreciate me for who I am.”

Jake Amy, the queer, non-binary powerhouse of Australia’s nu-jazz vanguard, goes full-unapologetic-power-mode with their forthcoming single Astro Shooter. A future-jazz cyclone with club weight, harmonic complexity, and a keys solo that tears open the silence around trans and non-binary lives. It’s not just a song — it’s a demand to be seen, heard, and felt.

“I’m lowkey embarrassed to admit that Astro Shooter is really just a soppy ‘love’ song,” says Jake. “I tried to express the warmth I feel when my close friends, family, and partners look into my eyes, hold my hand, and make me forget my woes. Right now, we are witnessing a regressing revolution, especially in the United States and United Kingdom, where trans rights are being reversed. As both an onlooker and someone already feeling its effects, I sit in the safety of my people and reflect. Astro Shooter is my anthem for anyone who’s been written out of stories, who’s learned to breathe quietly in public — and who still dreams of a place where we belong. Music is how I hold that place into being.”

A sonic statement that fuses future-sonic jazz, lush synth textures and electronic music elements, Astro Shooter was composed, recorded and produced by Jake Amy at Candy Suite Studios. The single features a razor-tight, expressive ensemble including Ebunoluwa Daramola on drums, Priscilla Stanley on vocals and Robyn Cummins on percussion. Mixed and mastered by GRAMMY-nominated engineer Nick Herrera, with artwork by hivoltageharvey, Astro Shooter pairs Jake’s genre-smashing musicianship with lyrics that insist on visibility. Lines such as “The world forgets our eyes / It shadows those in-between” and the chorus that exhales “Our truth keeps moving on” make the track both a meditation on erasure and a renewed insistence on collective care.

Having toured internationally and supported icons like Herbie Hancock, Chaka Khan and Thundercat, Jake Amy brings to Astro Shooter a fierce combination of virtuosity and political heart — music as liberation, music as witness. Performed live, the track becomes a ritual of recognition: intimate, wide-eyed and resolutely human.
