Freshly signed to Top Dawg Entertainment and named to XXL’s 2025 Freshman Class, the rapper from Long Beach, Calif., recently dropped his first full-length project, ‘The Good The Bad The Dollar Menu.’ Having collaborated with rap and R&B acts like Ab-Soul, Isaiah Rashad and Pusha T, Ray is also shaping his own sound. In this exclusive commentary, Ray talks about the making of tracks from ‘The Good The Bad The Dollar Menu.’ On “SUBURBAN KIDZ,” he breaks down the process of finding a beat that “felt like anxiety,” while “KLOWN dance” (featuring Jay Rock) recalls a troubled past, with poor choices made out of desperation. “We don’t do that now, thank God,” Ray Vaughn says.
