John Joseph Powell, known professionally as John Powell JP, is an underground Hip-Hop artist, songwriter, and record producer. Raised in Augusta, Georgia, JP initially gained recognition as an artist following the release of his debut mixtape, KingsView, in early 2015. JP released an additional mixtape, Nice Guys Finish Last, the day he graduated in late 2018. 

JP’s rap career started in 2006 at the age of 12 when he wrote introspective poems about life, and love that he kept in several notebooks. Two years later in 2008, this love for poetry would transform into rapping after being inspired by the late 90’s rappers 2pac, and Notorious B.I.G. From then on JP committed himself to learning the art of rap and storytelling by studying the likes of T.I., Lil Wayne, Kanye West, J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, and Drake. 7 years later, his intense studying led to the release of JP’s debut mixtape, KingsView, on SoundCloud in Early 2015 while attending school at Augusta University. The lead song “94 (ft Young Rome)” has garnered over 1000 plays on Soundcloud making it JP’s most streamed song to date. JP released his 2nd project, Nice Guys Finish Last, in late 2018 on the same day he graduated from Augusta University with a Bachelors in Communication.
