I knew there was energy leading up to this event. In talking with people, the excitement was palpable for Pink Mammoth to return to Boulder. Even with the expectation-bar raised sky high, revelers from Boulder, Denver, and beyond blew me away with the high vibe, the deep connections, and the insatiable energy. I am so appreciating being part of the event. 

Also, big shoutout to Denver producer and DJ, Andy Immerman, whose track, A Repeated Melody" comes in at minute 32.

Rhythm Sanctuary is a vibrant ecstatic dance community near Denver, Colorado. Every Thursday over 200 revelers gather to express themselves through movement. I had the opportunity to play the event on May 12, 2023. 

The intention: deep. The energy: palpable. The expression: mighty. I thought the dance floor was going to sprout wings and fly. Maybe it did.

This is my live recording from Rhythm Sanctuary Ecstatic Dance on August 18, 2023. The energy and expression of the dancers moved me to tears. 

Wave by musical wave, the dancers went deeper into flow and deeper into their respective ecstatic experiences. Taken together, the room unified in a collective experience, true communitas. Can you feel the unifying moments?

What a joy it was to provide the soundscape for those willing to go deep and ride wave after wave. I have deep gratitude for this medium to move people.

As dancers entered and grounded into the space, I embarked on this set to connect music to space, space to dancer, and dancer to music. Having each of these elements linked, made the journey that followed, all the more powerful.

The feedback loop from music > to dancer > to DJ > to music > to dancer > to DJ was on a level I have not experienced. A unifying field emerged in the space where energies rose and fell and rose and fell and transmuted, transformed, healed and grew. And we emerged . . . expanded. Deep gratitude to this community.

The recording from my live set at the Rhythm Sanctuary Ecstatic Dance in Denver, CO, on September 19, 2024. The dance was nestled between the full moon, partial lunar eclipse, and the Fall Equinox. Similarly, this sonic journey triangulates multiple sonic forces to provide a rich tapestry upon which to dive deep into the dance. As the set unfolded, I realized how autobiographical this musical expression was for me: moving from darkness to light; from contraction to expansion.

James began DJing because there was a musical expression inside of him that he had to let out. He felt the music he loved so deeply, he wanted to help create that experience for others as well. James has delighted dance floors from the Playa to theaters, from clubs to cabanas, and from intimate gatherings to expansive venues.

James has set the vibe at Pink Mammoth, played the Boulder Theater (on Halloween night!), and been a regular for Daybreaker Colorado. In addition to these events, James has shared the stage with the likes of Justin Martin, Lee Foss, and The Polish Ambassador. James understands from multiple perspectives what it takes to put on epic events having provided and operated the sound equipment for Below Radar. When he plays out, he brings to bear this diverse experience.

James isn't tied to a specific genre of House music; he's tied to his commitment to playing music that he feels deeply. He brings soulful beats to dance floors wherever he goes; curating musical experiences that make bodies move.
