Surprise Shunting (2019)

An Audio Drama Project for my course at Reform Radio. All voices, music and sound mixing done by me.


Set in 1991, Secrets of a Teenage Trainwreck is a short story about a young man named Ben Wheeler and his frustrating dynamic with his family. The whole story is a large satirical take on late 80's/early 90's family sitcoms. Trying to stay faithul to the kind of music, lingo and media they'd have around at the time.

Plot:
Ben is sort of your run-of-the mill but not really teenager from Manhattan, New York. He lives with his two younger siblings and parents. 
Unfortunately, his father is a toxic, blue collar steel mill worker who lives by his own beliefs and projects them on to others which takes a toll on his family, especially Ben and wife, Janet. This leaves Ben an often frustrated soul which is usually picked up by other students and occaisonally has run ins with young rivals such as Connor, who Ben attacks after being insulted about his passions and family. This leads to an argument with some harsh truths at the dinner table later that night, leaving Ben to run to his room to slowly self destruct.
