"UpTown" was born on November 19, 1987 in Talladega, AL to Martha Maree Simmons.  Shortly thereafter, he and his family relocated to Rochester, New York where he spent the remainder of his childhood. During early childhood, UpTown faced hard times, from growing up in the projects to being raised in a single parent home.  Not having a father figure around, he began to run the streets with little guidance.  As UpTown grew older his mother, Martha, went into the disc jockey and radio personality business for a local radio station. She was known to the localities as "MC Chique." Thanks to his mother being in the business of music, UpTown's interest for music became very strong.  After moving to the south where his roots are embedded, he never lost sight of the love for the city that raised him, Rochester. From that inspiring love came the name "UpTown." 
Along with the push from UpTown's older brother, Alvin Duwan Frazier, UpTown was determined to make his music be heard by the world sooner than later.  In 2003, UpTown Co-Founded the music group, GP (Ghetto Presidents) along side J-Track, G-Dot, C1, and Brit-Foxx.  Sadly, after impressing family, friends, and especially his oldest brother, tragedy struck home.  UpTown's older brother, Alvin Frazier was killed in an accident at work two weeks before UpTown's 18th birthday in 2005.  Deeply mourning the loss of his oldest brother, he lost interest of the music world.   
Years later, the inspiration of music began to flow through his heart again. Artists such as Biggie, Tupac, Jay Z, Nas, GP, and his older brother gave UpTown the motivation he needed to start composing music again and the continuation to strive for greatness.  In 2007, he and the Ghetto Presidents released their first mixtape titled "Into the footsteps of GP." From there they gained a lot of respect from the local city of Talladega, AL and surrounding areas. As things begin to look up for him, tragedy struck yet again when UpTown's step-father passed away of cancer in the summer of 2007.  Once again UpTown lost interest for music and as time progressed so did the wounds of his pain.  After enduring a great deal of depression and battling with drug addiction he decided to recreate himself and resurface into the world of music. 
Having experienced trouble times he continued to prevail.  In 2008 an unreleased version of GP's mixtape titled "The Lost Tape; Is GP Dead?" leaked to the media unintentionally.  The streets and his suppoters gave UpTown the momentum to go even harder and to continue what he loved to do, making music.  In 2009, G-Dot, a member of GP, released his first solo mixtape titled "Southern Fried Crack".  The mixtape featured UpTown on many of the tracks and gained great reception in the streets of Alabama during its circulation. 
In 2013, having relocated to Atlanta, Ga, and back on an even stronger grind UpTown released a mixtape titled "Give Me Da Throne".  In less than two months his mixtape gained over 25,000 downloads and a 5-Star rating on the Hip Hop website Datpiff.com.  Being a songwriter, having written for various artists, and also an entertainer himself speaks of UpTown's drive and energy towards a successful future in the music industry. 
Marley "UpTown" Marz spits a rap testimony of his life that many of us can relate to. When he goes into the booth his thoughts are his pen and paper, but to us it's known as freestyle.  He has a God given talent of being a songwriter because the music deeply bleeds through his veins. His energy is driven by an optimistic vision to give you(the world) nothing but the authenticity of who he truly is, and that is Marley "UpTown" Marz.
