This edition of the Innerflight mix series features a true electronic music scene legend, Michael Manahan. The dude has his imprint all over the Pacific Northwest music scene with his involvement in Oracle gatherings, Cascadia Festival, Re-Bar, Hunt And Gather and many many more. Just in case you live under a rock and haven't heard this guy weave his web of mesmerizing music before, you're in luck. This mix was recorded live in support of Matthew Dear in January at the Monkey Loft and is a smooth blend of Amazonian vibes brought to a simmer and served hot. Michael will be celebrating the release of his new EP out on LAIKA Sounds with us at our Drop party at the Monkey Loft Friday March 4th along with another local legend Zacharia and Innerflight's own legend Rhines. Innerflight Broadcast 139: Michael Manahan (Live Opening Set For Matthew Dear)

This has been titled a soundtrack over anything else. Yes it has a backbone and bed of dance music tracks but the entire project that Expediton has become involved more multitrack production and field recordings alongside several dozen sound design elements throughout the entire project. If your looking for a dj set to just dance to, this probably isn't for you. If your looking to melt into a multitude of natural ambiance and environments with some obscure under tones and trippy sound design, this is absolutely for you. Aside from the over two hour set recorded, there are over three dozen field recordings layered upon several dozen sound design elements to take you all on an expedition. Sure, it gets a little silly and probably weird at a moment or two, but I had fun with it!
I started this mix series years back in hopes to take the listener on a journey and I feel like this is pulling you into the mix deeper then it typically would. I really enjoyed working on this and hope you enjoy listening! 
Optimum listening experience would be in either a set of headphones or on some nice monitors. The stereo field gets wide at some points and the placement on some elements shifts around the stereo field.

I was born an audiophile and have always been listening. When I was a young boy my safety blanket was a pair of old headphones and a gain knob within reach during nap times and still is after over four decades today. Theres nothing more comforting than sub sonic bass frequencies and a bouncing mid range sprinkled with a melodic high end to soothe any and every emotion. When it comes to music and audio in general, it has a way of carrying us off and elevating our spirits every single time we close our eyes and just listen. Tribal rhythm and drums is where it all started for me growing up as a local northwest native american. My tribal roots run deep and I incorporate my heritage into every set I play by layering in ethnomusic percussion, in a sense grounding my sound back to where it all began for me as a child. I am a fan of trippy, weird, spacey sounds and thats probably why I love sound design so much. Every chance I get, I am going to create a soundscape that takes you on an emotional and spiritual journey. I play music in hopes to make an immediate connection with my listener and help them to find ways to make a deeper connection within themselves. Music is my weapon against all of the chaos and animosity in this world that we live in. I hope to only elevate you while you give me your ears.
