We revive our Global Selection series with a standout contribution from one of France's most authoritative selectors of his generation, Ivan Smagghe.

Ahead of his return to Dublin for Big Dish Go this weekend at Centre Point, Smagghe delivers a masterful hour of storytelling through sound. From shimmering downtempo rarities to deep, driving house cuts and smoky, electro-kissed grooves, his mix unfolds like the hazy soundtrack to a foggy morning in the hills of an undisclosed rave, transporting you there, or wherever your wandering mind takes you.

Few DJs can transform obscurity into dancefloor gold like Ivan Smagghe. With a musical ethos reminiscent of the late, great Andrew Weatherall, Smagghe acts as a raw conduit, channelling his notoriously esoteric record collection into the pulsing bodies beneath the strobe. His latest mix is yet another example of his singular talent—a deep dive into the avant-garde fringes of electronic music, held together by an intuitive understanding of groove and space.

Smagghe has long been at the intersection of Parisian hype and unwavering musical integrity. From his pioneering work with Black Strobe to his boundary-pushing productions as one half of It’s A Fine Line, he has received praise from some of the most respected names in electronic music, including James Murphy, Trevor Jackson, Ata, Optimo, and, of course, Weatherall himself. What is their shared mission? To demonstrate that electronic music is more than just a hedonistic soundtrack; it is a constantly evolving art form.

Pixie is a member of the record shop "RECORD SHOP rare groove" in Osaka. She has steadily gained recognition in Japan and abroad for her mysterious playstyle, which was established through her unique interpretation of house music, mainly Chicago house and Italo disco.

With a rich international performance history, she has graced stages at Bambi's and Do West Fest in Toronto, Canada, Yu Yu in Mexico City, Zodiac in Jakarta, Peels in Bali, Grey Area and Rabbit Hole in Taipei, Savage in Hanoi, and numerous other overseas gigs.

In Japan, she performed at Rural, the long-established festival, the Rainbow Disco Club’s pre-event celebrating its 15th anniversary in 2024, Larry Heard’s show in Japan, and more.

In addition to her DJ work, she has provided mixes for NTS Radio, The Vinyl Factory, and other media at home and abroad.

DJ HISTORY: The first place Andy DJ`d was in the 6th form common room and didn`t play out again until into his 40s...dancing always came first! The SUNK parties in London were a launch pad, co-hosting with Chris Chippindale and Truly Madly. Andy has played at various venues up and down the UK - with upcoming bookings at "Funk In The Forest" Brithdir Hall in Welshpool, Wales and "MLD goes live - Dub & Techno infused Festival" in Premnitz, Germany.

For almost 20 years, James Steer has consistently and unassumingly contributed to the after-hours soundtrack of Melbourne. Well respected within the underground Melbourne DJ community, James has built a reputation as a selector who deftly balances exquisite taste with technical execution. James cut his teeth as one of the founders of the legendary Deep Chord Melbourne parties in the early noughties, showcasing the emerging deep minimal sounds of the time to an eager and receptive audience. The party started off as an intimate affair in the confines of the upstairs space of Pony Bar (later Boney), before finding a true home in the legendary basement space of the Mercat Cross. Since then, James has regularly graced the decks at some of Melbourne’s most iconic nightspots, equally adept at delivering funk and disco laden suppertime soundtracks as heaving excursions into deep dance floor dynamics. Drawing from a vast, genre-defying collection, James’ sets offer the listener/dancer a guided tour through the fundamentals of depth, always evolving and never stagnant, a glimpse into the now, with a respectful nod to what’s come before.
