Tech House Mixes

Last Friday. 1am. In a meadow. Bashing them out! Thanks, @nicogladwin, @tombaker. Thank you, party people of @the-simple-weekender.

This one builds to bring in some tough tech tracks, dipping slightly midway with a sprinkling of acid and then teching it back up. 126BPM, rough & ready (probably should have had fewer beers!), with crowd ambience mixed in.

This was The Simple Weekender's second year and by all accounts a great success with everyone. It's an intimate, stripped, back-to-basics festival. No fuss, no sponsors; preferring to focus on local music and local party-goers.  I love it, and long may it continue.  I was asked to play 1-2am on the main stage (The Dome) on Friday night, a privilege I'm very grateful for, and this is the result.  Enjoy x

Live at The Simple Weekender (Aug 2014)

It's a new term back at The Bullingdon in Oxford.  Yes.  Word is, the venue is reverting back to its former name from the Art Bar.  Don't ask!  So to kick off the season @simple-oxford brought out the big guns in the form of @boddika and I was lucky enough to warm up for him just before he hit the decks.  This is what I picked and played, complete with crowd ambience.  Enjoy.

Live at Simple before Boddika (Oct 2014)

Wow, has it been a whole month since @simple-oxford's boat party back in May? I guess a lot has been occupying my time which has delayed my bringing this to you, and does it fly when you're having fun ;) As you probably know it is by far my most favourite of all the parties I play at. The open air, sunshine, the Oxford countryside, springtime wildlife, familiar faces and, I'll be honest, a captive audience! I feel more confident dropping a few classics and taking the mix where I want it to go. Totally in my element. I hope you'll indulge me.

You may have noticed I've brought back crowd ambience to my live mixes. It was never a conscious decision to omit the atmosphere from some recent years' mixes, but it became such a time-suck to set up, extract and mix it all down. Now though I've got an all-in-one device, the Tascam DR-40, that records the mixer and mic feeds as separate tracks, in sync, so it's then just a question of dropping it in Ableton and getting the levels just right.

In this party's success and its selling out three weeks before the event, we forgot to shout about it being 10 years, that's right, 10 years of Simple boat parties, often in collaboration with Simple's friends Slide (@matt-slide) in the first five years. I had a listen back to my mix from the 5 Years Of Boat Parties celebrations when music trends were on the cusp of turning away from fidget...

Live on Simple's Bank Holiday Boat Party (May 2015)

Well, dear listener, it's been some months since I last published a mix. I've been recording, but due to time, recorder errors or self-criticism one has not found its way to your ears until now. I recorded this last weekend on Saturday 30 January where I warmed up for Dense & Pika alongside Xavier ∆ and Tim Gore.

So I've finally sorted out a jumble of my recordings.  This one from April went up on SoundCloud a few days after the event, but I've only just (six months later) got around to publishing it on my website with a track list!  More mixes to follow in the coming weeks.

This mix is live from the residency, Saturday 4th February where I closed the night after James Weston played a wonderful set. We had Midland down playing an earlier slot as he had to shoot off & play the Just Jack party in Bristol. Absolutely smashing evening & here's my mix.

Live from our Simple party with Call Super headlining. Honestly one of the best events I've been at in a good while.. The atmosphere was insane, everyone smashed it but @katiushadj & @Roarmc absolutely stole the show after Call Super..

We had Peggy Gou headline @simple-oxford at the tail end of May.. It was the unofficial after-party for Common People Oxford & the club was packed to the rafters from 10:30pm. Such a great vibe, probably one of my most favourite sets I've played to date so here it is..
