ピアニスト／コンポーザー横山起朗が、ワールドスタンダードの楽曲をピアノ・ソロで演奏。
フェルト・ピアノのようにやわらかで、静寂と気配をまとったピアノの音色と響き ー それは窓の外で降る雪の気配や、ふと聴こえてくる鳥の声とともに、静かに変わりゆく日常の微かな前兆（まえぶれ）を感じる音楽。

2023年5月に開催されたコンサート「Polish Pianism」での横山起朗の演奏を聴いた鈴木惣一朗が、その音色に惚れ込み、自らプロデュースを申し出て誕生した作品。鈴木がワールドスタンダード名義で発表した数多くの楽曲のうち、2020年のパンデミック以降のアルバム3枚『色彩音楽』『エデン』『ポエジア...刻まれた時間』から横山が選び、ソロ・ピアノにアレンジ。2023年の秋から冬にかけて1曲ずつじっくりと録音された順に、そのままアルバムに収められました。

自作曲でない故に、横山がこだわったのは楽曲の核となる情感、フェルト・ピアノのような親密な響き、音色が纏う空気感。まるで手紙のように1編ずつ届けられる音源ごとに移ろいゆく気配を損なわないよう、丁寧にミックスとマスタリングが施され完成した本作。幾重にも重なるブルーの淡いレイヤーがうつくしい手折りジャケットとともに、このアルバムを届けます。

Bittersweet is the Moon（月は甘く苦く）

Marat Shainsky aka Frunk29’s third album of cyclical six-string shapes for NNF further threads his needle of treated guitar, metronomic rhythm, and slipstream electronics—this time into a 12-track suite inspired by “the free energy of nature: ”Drifting Horses. Recorded across 2023 at home, the songs conjure moods of open plains, big skies, and endless journeys, plucked and strummed through webs of kaleidoscopic FX. Patterns ripple and reverberate, lifting into swells of melody, gold dust, and drift.

There’s an ease to Shainsky’s style, born of daily playing and discovery, limber navigations with familiar tools, echoing in his head on long forest walks with his dog. Music of vignettes and vistas, glimpses and memories, spilling from the source to somewhere beyond tomorrow.

Time flies when you’re having fun. Or when you’re deeply immersed in music, like we are at SoHaSo. Because we missed our own birthday! A decade of Something Happening Somewhere almost went by without any birthday cakes or celebration. So here’s something joyful. 

To mark our 11th birthday, we present 11 tracks to be released on 11.11. The album contains 11 echoes, each a highlight from the journey of our label.

"Of course, it's impossible to pick just 11 highlights from 55 releases”, says label owner Nuno Dos Santos. “But these 11 tracks are truly special to me."

The compilation opens with our first-ever release from Love Over Entropy in November 2013—an immersive, hypnotic stormer that relentlessly builds to epic proportions. Even after all these years, it hasn’t lost an ounce of its charm or energy.

Another standout is the wonderfully wonky Endure by Utrecht-based knob-tweaker Vela Uniform. This track recalls the glory days of Warp’s Artificial Intelligence series—yes, it’s that good.

We also revisit the dubby Detroit minimalism of Luna Ludmilla, and the reissue of our collaborative EP with Lossless, featuring King Britt’s timeless track from 2002. “A sonic narrative that has captivated me since its release, it remains just as fresh and uplifting 22 years later. It felt only right to share its transformative beauty with a wider audience.”

Then, there's Dave Angel’s legendary Original Man, originally released in 1993. “With its innovative rhythm programming and orchestral arrangements, it still feels as groundbreaking now as it did 30 years ago”, Nuno says. 

Closing the compilation is Kurt Baggaley’s Former Self, a 13-minute journey that seems to stretch time itself. As it drifts along, the boundary between reality and dream blurs, leaving listeners suspended in an entrancing, esoteric haze.

11 days after Echoes, SoHaSo will also release Horizons. A compilation of 11 new tracks where the Utrecht-based label looks ahead, to the future.
