q. is there a story behind the mix?
a. Just artists I love, mostly chill. I don’t DJ, so I love the challenge. There’s a lot of music from the 2000’s, very cut and paste, some wonky-era beat stuff that I slowed down, local gems, music to really chill to.. but not TOO much. Btw there was a Venetian Snares track in this mix that I took out because it ruined the vibe, but listen to “Shoot Myself”, it’s beautiful 

q. what’s the best way to enjoy your mix?
a. Beer and a beanbag

q. describe a favourite object in your living room…
a. There’s a “no smoking” sticker stuck exactly in the middle of the window, left by our previous tenant (an elderly Greek man) which is so funny to me 

q. are you working on any projects right now?
a. I’m taking a break from producing, and instead enjoying playing in a band (Cloud Ice 9), travelling to Japan soon, reading more, quitting smoking (see above). I made an ASMR for my friend Chas’ art exhibition opening this weekend, and I’d love to make more dance floor-heavy tracks next :)

Living Room n°63 ~ Yunzero

Marat Shainsky aka Frunk29’s third album of cyclical six-string shapes for NNF further threads his needle of treated guitar, metronomic rhythm, and slipstream electronics—this time into a 12-track suite inspired by “the free energy of nature: ”Drifting Horses. Recorded across 2023 at home, the songs conjure moods of open plains, big skies, and endless journeys, plucked and strummed through webs of kaleidoscopic FX. Patterns ripple and reverberate, lifting into swells of melody, gold dust, and drift.

There’s an ease to Shainsky’s style, born of daily playing and discovery, limber navigations with familiar tools, echoing in his head on long forest walks with his dog. Music of vignettes and vistas, glimpses and memories, spilling from the source to somewhere beyond tomorrow.

See Blue Audio: ambient / electronic / beatless / cinematic / downtempo / eclectic / introspective… Shade rather than light...

2024 has seen a flurry of activity from Rhombus Index on See Blue Audio. The year started with his remix of Lyli J's 'Tide' from her 'Majjie' album, then came 'Mutual Expression', his collaborative project with f5point6, and finally 'hycean', his fourth release on See Blue Audio and representation of a further step in the electronic artist’s musical evolution. This seven-track solo album is a personal reflection on the fusing of organic and digital realities, and it embraces the full range of the signature Rhombus Index pastoral electronica aesthetic. Two tracks, in particular, express the spark of club culture that runs through his music, and these were selected for 'hycean revisited', a remix collection and the fifty-seventh release on See Blue Audio.

Rhombus Index, a West Yorkshire-based experimental producer and sound designer, is known for favouring of relatively short tracks, understated perhaps but always with an ephemeral charm. Musical ideas quickly come into view, their essence hangs in the air, and then they dissolve into the ether. This has always made them perfect candidates for remixing, and so the idea for 'hycean revisited' was born. 'Digital Anemone', the beating heart of the original album with its Balearic aura, was an obvious choice, but also 'Polyeme' which despite being essentially beatless, is a glorious invocation of the natural world. An international cast from the See Blue Audio roster were then invited to rework, reinterpret and reimagine as they wished.

This isn't the first Rhombus Index release to feature remixes; 'Kernel Phase' at the end of 2022 included several from his back catalogue. 'hycean revisited' takes this one step further with seven new versions of 'Digital Anemone'. As the most uptempo track on the album, it provided a base that could be turned and twisted into myriad shapes. Drone/ambient producer NRV strips the track back and adds subtle melodic touches to create a hypnotic reverie, while Lyli J expands the original into an eight-minute odyssey, rich and warm with a hint of a retro chillout vibe. By contrast, Bagaski's 'Eve' mix is a swirling, atonal reinterpretation in his characteristic vaporwave style.

f5point6 takes 'Digital Anemone' deep into his cinematic world, while Barcelona-based Darbinyan, a newcomer to See Blue Audio, morphs the beats into a dub heavy, spaced out version. In conclusion, the Electric Supply Station Reimagination is an extended narrative where elements of the original are rearranged and interspersed with new sounds and dynamics. Rhombus Index has also created his own slowed down ambient version which allows the melodies to take centre stage. This is one for early Sunday morning as you ease yourself back into life.

A pause for breath follows before Gabriel Slick takes hold of 'Polyeme' and heads dark and techy with his RoboCrafting Material alias. To round things off, Kuma's 'Train to Todmorden' mix goes a little strange and shadowy forces are unleashed. It's the perfect epilogue to this return visit to 'hycean' and embrace of its multiple dimensions.

See Blue Audio is all about light rather than shade, contrast and contradiction, energy and calm, and 'hycean revisited' captures this essence. It's a fine and sometimes darker companion to the original album, and a fitting epitaph for 2024.

CHIEN DE TEMPS #18 w/ Boskøw - LYL Radio (08/11/24)

Sound artist Igor Dyachenko has transformed data from the Garage Museum archive into a sound work titled Atemporal.

The archival data from the RAAN is transformed by the author into an auditory dimension through the process of sonification. Each archive element enters into a network of interrelations, shaping a layered soundscape untethered from conventional concepts of time, form, or space. This sonic environment is in constant flux, transitioning from a state of information to one of emotional resonance. The project challenges the static nature of archival data, reinterpreting it through acoustic resonances and distortions, where sound as a medium reveals a new dimension of perception and experience.

Atemporal

After a recent output on Moon Glyph, Nicolas Gaunin is back on Artetetra with a new digital EP of tender digital folklore hymns for personal mini-worlds. Known for his composition style centered on interlocking polyrhythms and bidimensional sound fonts advancing the field of a possible 2.0 exotica, in Huti ゲーム Gaunin momentarily abandons his customary musical vocabulary to experiment with an atypical ‘ensemble’ approach: percussions interweave with string samples and synthetic choirs. This change gives his tracks a surprising lyrical dimension. Timbral textures are lightened in place of airy, delicate sound spaces while densely layered arrangements breath through tight interplay.

Inspired by a number of classic essays, novels and mythical texts by the likes of Elémire Zolla, E.R. Eddison and Mircea Eliade, the imagery of Huti ゲーム (Game) is built as a soundtrack of an imaginary videogame, an epic adventure starring the hero Rokoreke Taribaku, alter ego of Nicolas Gaunin (in turn alter ego of Nicola Sanguin). In the land of Huti, inhabited by strange animal-human creatures, Rokoreke must face his nemesis: the gigantic Serpent swallowing everything in its path and trapping the creatures' souls in its tunnel-like stomach. The musical narration follows the hero's quest to defeat the monster and free the trapped critters’ souls, thus making each track a miniature stage-soundtrack expressing fragments of this fantasy world.
The Serpent, a recurrent symbol of eternal return and rebirth in many cultures, becomes the central figure on the EP. Each track suggests the idea of an inner and cosmic battle, in which music becomes a metaphor for the conflict between polarities of any kind. The choice of synthetic sounds and evocative strings amplifies this symbolism, tracing an emotional path that superimposes the mythical seriousness of Rokoreke’s destiny with registers coming from popular culture and children’s tales.

Once again, Gaunin renews his worldbuilding potential by propelling hybrid folk imageries into the 21st century. Huti ゲーム is a sound experience that transcends the concept of a soundtrack, becoming a short immersive and poetic suite, in which Gaunin plays with sounds to tell a story of redemption and rebirth, with echoes of ancient myths and future worlds.


Huti Ghosts

Glabra and ENKI are a duo of djs traveling between Paris and Amsterdam. Coming from different approaches to music and sound, together they lapse in and out of clubbing and soundscaping. For Baxua’s residency ‘Wandering Melodies’ at Lyl Radio they prepared an hour-long meandering, from sunrise to sunset, through crystal beats and moaning melodies.
