Treasure Fingers - Alizé Sunsets

FCL’s rework of Chicagoan duo ESP’s classic track ‘It’s You’, is an important part of house music history. Being supported from everyone from Dixon to Dennis Ferrer, it has more recently taken the underground clubbing world by storm since it’s re-release on We Play House and later, UK’s Defected Records.

Etcetc are proud to be releasing an all star remix package along with some top-shelf exclusives. First cab off the rank is US house veteran MK (recently remixing for Lana Del Ray, Hot Natured, Storm Queen), followed by fellow US heavyweight David Moralesand joined by Italian duo Flashmob who recently rocketed into notoriety with their house track 'Need In Me'. Our exclusive remixes come from slow-mo disco kid, Frames as well as an inspiring funk jam from James Curd

With releases on Greenskeepers Music, Drop Music, Blotter, Maracuja and Homecoming, JDub has certainly worked with some of the top labels in underground House music.

House has had a huge impact on him, “opening doors for me that I never even knew existed, and enabling me to meet the love of my life, my best friends, people from all over the world because of this music. House Music has been my shelter, my food, my refuge, my savior.” House has also seen JDub tour the world playing in London, Paris, Instanbul, Belgium, New York, LA, Toronto, Montreal, and countless other cities.

In preparing his 90 minute mix for the Gangstercast, JDub says, “these are the tracks that I’m loving right now that best represent my personality and the message I’m trying to bring across. It’s very personal all the way through from the Eric B and Rakim vocal to the DJ Sneak remix of Master of Time, a Frames track featuring yours truly on vocals. I’ve been very focused on live performance and vocals for the last few years. Whether it was with the Greenskeepers or being featured on multiple projects, I took a big step back from DJing to develop another side of my talent and interest. The tracks featured on this mix make me really excited to DJ again, to wake up and just go hard for hours on end creating this set. Derrick Carter has been a huge influence on me throughout my career so of course he’s also got a track on this mix. I’ve got my San Francisco producers, DJ Dan and DJ Mes here, Carlo Lio representing Toronto, Asad Rizvi from London, some classics including Brand New Heavies and few others. I don’t want to give it all away. I like for people to listen and discover for themselves like I do. That’s how you mine the gems out the dirt.

“The mix has all the elements of music that inspire me everyday: Heavy Beats, driving percussion, lethal baselines, clever samples, soulful vocals, a sense of humor, a few surprising twists and turns especially the Hip Hop themes that run through the mix. Hip Hop has always been a huge part of my approach to being a House DJ. Putting a strong message in the music is so important and Hip Hop does that like no other art form. It was really important for this mix that I reinforce my Hip Hop roots and weave together all my main obsessions: House, Hip Hop, Tech-House, and that relentless essence of the mix that I’m all about.”

Focusing on the House Gangster movement, JDub adds that for him it is about, “loving your House music and House DJs through all the trends and fades that come along and recognizing how incredible this music is every day. You live it through the music, the fashion, the attitude, the parties you go to, what you spend your cash on, and standing up for your musical principles. When I was coming up in Chicago, people dressed House, they spoke a House language, there was a graphic Art style that was House, it was a culture that permeated everything and you pledged your allegiance to it in spite of the fact that the mainstream treating it at best as a passing fade and at worst as a threat to traditional values. Being a House Gangster reminds me of that time. 

“People should be proud to represent what they love with no holds barred, no shame, and in a wider global culture that supports the artists, the music, the venues, and the labels that create this movement. It also means have the time of your life, having experiences you’ll always take with you, dancing your face off, and leaving the club in a state of ecstacy and exhaustion.

“I feel like I’m returning to my roots with this one because of Sneak and Melissa Sosa creating this whole House Gangster media blitz. I’ve been involved in projects with those guys for years including Blu Funk, All World, and now this. This is all about family and what this family stands for.”

Anyway I've got some nice pumping vocal house this time around I'd probs drop these sort of tunes if I was doing a set down at the Harmony Network in Alabama.

I don't know what it is about playing in the heart of Birmingham and dropping this sort of House but it's awesome and always goes down well.....2 more months and I'll be back, woo! Hoo!

James Curd began his DJing career in Chicago when he was only fifteen years old. Being underage, Curd was snuck into events to play at raves and clubs he was not legally allowed in. He played along side some of electronic music’s most respected acts and DJs. Through his love of DJing and music Curd began to write and produce for himself. At nineteen Curd released his first track on the globally respected label “Basenotic” out of Paris. From there Curd created “Greenskeepers”, a name to represent himself and the wide range of music he wrote and the artists he collaborated with.

As “Greenskeepers” Curd released an array of music on Classic records. He made his mark on the dance music world by infusing swing music and Chicago house to invent the term G-Swing, being short for Greenskeepers Swing. Curd focused on G-Swing and started a label by that same name to feature this unique sound. Around this same time Curd also owned and operated two other record labels “Igloo” and “Greenskeepers Music”.

Curd has released four full length albums under Greenskeepers, “Ziggy Franklin Radio Show”, “Pleetch”, “Polo Club” and “Live Like You Want To Live”. Curd has also had phenomenal individual success with releases on DFA, Permanent Vacation, Exploited, Eskimo, ETC ETC, Bang Gang, OM, Ministry Of Sound, to name a few. Curd is also highly sought after for his remixes. He has remixed artist such as Juan Maclean, PNAU, Midnight Magic, Poolside, Kaskade, Hercules & Love Affair, Groove Armada, Flight Facilities and more. Curd’s music has also been remixed by great artist like Poolside, Flosstradamus, Juan Maclean, Gigamesh, Treasure Fingers, Pepe Bradock, The Rapture, Dimitri From Paris, Flight Facilities and Derrick Carter.

Four of Curd’s songs have been featured on “Grey’s Anatomy”, while others have appeared on T.V shows such as C.S.I Miami, Point Pleasant, MTV Real World and Keeping Up With The Kardashians. His music can also be found in foreign films as well as main stream movies such as “What Happens In Vegas”,”The Vow” and the hugely successful animation “The Incredibles”. If you listen carefully, you will even find Curd’s work on BBC documentaries and American Airlines inflight radio! His work in T.V. and Film has enabled him to work behind the scenes as a music supervisor. His latest film “Crush” is produced by Intrepid Pictures and features an amazing array of artist from around the world hand picked by Curd to fit each scene perfectly.

Curd has toured the world over, renown for his energy behind the decks and his ability to make a party. Curd has performed at some of the world’s most respected clubs. From Fabric in London, The Avalon in Los Angeles, Home in Sydney to The Arches in Glasgow. Curd has also been part of festivals such as Park Life in Australia, Lollapalooza In Chicago, T In The Park in Scotland and Electric Picnic in Ireland.

Curd continues to consistently release quality new music by pushing his sound while also staying true to his roots. He has started a new band called “Favored Nations” with singer Morgan Phalen who has also worked with Justice and Phenomenal Handclap Band. The third bandmate is Sid Who?, who also plays bass and guitar for Empire Of The Sun. Curd is also putting together a mix CD coming soon on Ministry Of Sound. With Curd anything and everything can be expected. Whether it’s Rockstar Games using his song for the “Grand Theft Auto 4” Ad campaign or his latest EP sitting at number one on Juno, you never know what to expect from the talented Curd or where his music might pop up.
