Part of the thriving Norwich folk scene, James Frost's previews new single 'Nameless' from his forthcoming EP. The dreamlike, pastoral lyrics combine with delicate fingerpicked guitar, smooth rhodes organ and sweet harmonies from London songwriter Carmody, creating an instant classic.

James often draws comparison with timeless English songwriters such as Nick Drake and John Martyn, as well as contemporaries such as Ben Howard and Damien Rice. He has played on the main acoustic stage of the Secret Garden Party Festival, worked with legendary English record producer Clive Langer (Madness, Elvis Costello etc) in the studio and is fresh from recent tour support slots with Tiny Ruins, Sam Brookes and Peter Mulvey.

The new album is a feast of uplifting songs and acoustic instrumentation, featuring a wide range of western and world instruments, choirs, gospel singers, live band recording and sparkling audio production.
 
The 'All Of Our Hands' project has been backed by hundreds of people across England and beyond, who have taken opportunities to follow the album production, sing at recording sessions, engage in the album artwork and attend house concerts. The project is rooted in community and provided unique opportunities for audiences to go behind the scenes and be part of the creative process.
 
The album raised over £16,000 from fans through an incredibly successful crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo.com (it was the #1 trending music campaign globally on the platform when launched). Guest vocalists include Kyla Jade (American gospel singer, finalist on ‘The Voice’ USA), Carmody (London-based vocalist who collaborates with Tom Misch) and gospel choir ‘Soul Of The City’, as part of an international line up of over 100 musicians and singers who contributed.
 
Covering a variety of musical styles including swing-jazz (Love Will Never Leave Your Heart), gospel (All Of Our Hands), Americana (Gypsy Roots), piano ballad (Small Corner) and traditional folk (Olde England Alive), the album is tied together by James’ rich, resonant vocals and the seamless playing of a live band. This is an album of great vision that honours the sacred in our lives and calls to a better world.

RECORDED WITH A PEOPLE'S CHOIR AT REAL WORLD STUDIOS

This album was generously funded by audiences through an Indiegogo crowdfund campaign. As a gift, everyone that contributed to the crowdfund was invited to the recording studio to add their voices to a song on the album, along with families and other members of my musical community. 

It was an experiment in co-creation as most people who took part had never been to a recording studio before and were not professional singers.

We met in The Big Room of Peter Gabriel’s legendary Real World Studios and together added harmonies to this track ‘Where Everything Is Music’ under the guidance of Choir Director Fran André. It turned out beautifully!

Nameless (Acoustic)

James Frost is a musician and songwriter whose life and music are deeply rooted in the wild landscapes and creative communities of Dartmoor, UK.

He has toured extensively, playing shows with Martha Tilston, James Yorkston, Tiny Ruins and many other folk heroes, alongside festival appearances at Glastonbury, Secret Garden Party, Wilderness and Folk East.

In the studio, James has been privileged enough to work with legendary record producer Clive Langer (David Bowie, Elvis Costello, David Byrne) who contributed production to James' first EP ‘Nameless’. 

Upon release, the title track was chosen as one of BBC 6Music Tom Robinson’s picks of the week, leading to a session for BBC Introducing and a sold out launch event at London’s Servant Jazz Quarters.

With growing support, James launched a crowdfund to record his debut album ‘All Of Our Hands’, raising over £16,000 from fans, with additional backing from Arts Council England and Help Musicians. 

The album, part-recorded at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios, is a feast of uplifting songs and acoustic instrumentation, featuring a wide range of western and world instruments, choirs, gospel singers, live band recording and sparkling audio production.
