Here’s an insight into how a song can formulate during a sound check. The two most famous song made this way were Springfield (in Springfield, Maryland, USA 🇺🇸) and ariel (in Buenas Aries)

Here is another sound check improvisation that will become a song. It’s called “why now?” 

Here it is in its first and original form, as it was being born, so to speak. Eckhart Tolle calls moments like these, moments of presence, when things can flow through you.

James Frost is an independent British folk artist whose delicate, fingerpicked guitar and dreamlike lyrics have attracted attention from BBC 6Music,  Glastonbury Festival and leading online platform Folk Radio UK. His sound is reminiscent of quintessential English troubadour Nick Drake and mainstream success Ben Howard, offering both traditional and more contemporary elements.

He has toured extensively in recent years, both as a solo artist and as a band, playing shows with Martha Tilston, James Yorkston, Tiny Ruins and many other folk heroes. Bookings include stages at Glastonbury Festival, Secret Garden Party Festival, Folk East, Into The Wild, Norwich and Norfolk Festival and many other folk gatherings and festivals in the UK. Whilst living on the road, he has performed in a 700 year old Dartmoor chapel, at living room house concerts arranged by fans and to a naked audience in a festival sauna. He has a good few stories to tell...

In the studio, James has been privileged enough to work with legendary record producer Clive Langer (David Bowie, Elvis Costello, David Byrne) who contributed production to James' 2015 EP ‘Nameless’. Upon release, the EP’s lead single and title track was chosen as one of BBC 6Music Tom Robinson’s picks of the week, with the magical accompanying video premiered by leading folk blog Folk Radio UK to critical acclaim (youtu.be/QlrapSa9A7o).

NEW ALBUM: ALL OF OUR HANDS
Completed at Real World Studios (Peter Gabriel's legendary recording studio), mixed in Los Angeles by renowned sound designer John Hendicott and backed by Arts Council England, James’ new album ‘All Of Our Hands’ is a feast of uplifting songs and acoustic instrumentation, featuring a wide range of western and world instruments, choirs, gospel singers, live band recording and sparkling audio production.

The 'All Of Our Hands' project has been backed by hundreds of people across Europe and beyond, who have taken opportunities to follow the album production, sing at recording sessions, engage in the album artwork and attend house concerts. The project is rooted in community and continually provides opportunities for audiences to be part of the creative process, go behind the scenes and meet James at online collaborative events.

The album raised over £16,000 from fans through a successful crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo.com (it was the #1 trending music campaign globally on the platform when launched). Guest vocalists include Kyla Jade (American gospel singer, finalist on ‘The Voice’ USA), Carmody (London-based vocalist who collaborates with Tom Misch) and gospel choir ‘Soul Of The City’, as part of an international line up of over 100 musicians and singers who contributed. The album launches in 2024.
