‘Entre Chien et Loup’ is the third single and final taster of Project Gemini’s much anticipated, forthcoming second album Colours & Light. A Francophile-flavoured waltz through the depths of emotion, anguish and escape, served up through the lens of Project Gemini’s cinematic style. Featuring the vocal elegance of Gloria’s Wendy Martinez and guitar solo grit of Wolf People/Large Plants’ Jack Sharp, the beauty of the music is also wrapped up in the pain of its context. Shades of darkness, studded with pockets of light.

Having gained a great 6 Music reception with the title track and second single, Colours & Light, Project Gemini aka Paul Osborne presents one of two album cuts that Lyon-based Wendy Martinez features on. Having sent through the instrumental of ‘Entre Chien et Loup’, Paul mentions: “When Wendy sent me back the beautiful vocal parts she’d written, I was completely blown away. She’d totally elevated the track to another level. Lyrically, it documents an individual escaping a destructive relationship, and the song title (‘between dog and wolf’ a well-known French phrase used to describe dusk/twilight) was absolutely perfect. Jack Sharp added the finishing touches with his mesmerising guitar solo.”

Sweeping and celestial, the Francophile touch is heightened by Paul’s analogue saturated, Mellotron playing and the percussive tactility of Eleven 76/Call Sender’s Paul Elliott. A wandering bassline and the expert drumming of Sababa 5’s Raz Man, anchor the track further to its earthly nature.

For some it might be Kraftwerk, but for me, my favourite electronic pioneers are probably Australia's Severed Heads. They were so far ahead of the game that they had to invent a lot of the technology they used. Inspired, playful, never boring and always sonically brilliant they pushed at the frontiers of electronic music more than most. By the late 80s they were pursuing a slightly more polished course and made a series of records that had the potential to reach a much larger audience. Possibly because of their name they never quite managed that, but they had several big club hits; the dub versions of which crossed over into the nascent house scene. I am honoured that I am able to make the dubs of those three 12"s from 1988 - 1990 available again. 

On side A is “Greater Reward (Dub)” which has possibly thee most beautiful piano in the history of dance music. Often sampled but never equalled, it still brings joy to dancefloors 27 years after it was released. Severed Heads original production and mastering was so ahead of the game that it needed only the slightest re-master.  The original, while perfect in every way was always tricky to dj with as THAT piano was right at the start so if it was mixed in, it wouldn't get heard until much later in the track. I've slightly rearranged it for dj use but haven't added anything whatsoever. Side A also includes the majestic original.

On the AA side. “Big Car (Crash Dub)” is a masterclass in how to make a track that chugs that is tedium free. At the time it had possibly the heaviest kick drum I'd ever heard and was akin to a mutant cousin of one of David Morales legendary Red Zone house dubs. “All Saints Day (Saints Day Dub)” rounds off the EP with future looking sound design, hypno bass and trademark Severed Heads edit magic.

Emotional Rescue follows up the success of the Suns Of Arqa’s Brujo Magic EP (ERC002) with this special screen-printed first vinyl addition of remixes from the cult producer, Muslimgauze.

The meeting of Suns Of Arqa’s dub rhythms and ethnic harmonies with Muslimgauze’s Industrial cut-up atmospherics, noise drones and colliding rhythms creates the perfect result, that could easily of been crafted this year rather than the 20 years ago.
Released as CD only in 1996, the story of how the minds and music of Wadada and Muslimgauze met is as much the result of geography than the mutual musical desire to work together.

Based in Manchester throughout their career, the meeting was upon Jones seeking to work with Wadada. After a visit to the latters home, a full set of the bands recently recorded master tapes were handed over and then some month later the tracks on this album were mailed back in return as you hear them now.

There was never a meeting again between the two, but the material produced was such that it appeared in two differing versions for release on their own respective label outlets.

This first time vinyl addition takes the recordings as they were originally released, from the Sun’s own Arka Sound album and picks 13 tracks that show the marriage of World music with these inspired remixes.

Bryn’s untimely death at just 38 created a cult that left a huge cannon of work that is still being discovered and hopefully, this album will add to that legacy.

Released on vinyl for the first time, with screen printed sleeve by House Of Traps, the Re-mixs will be available in June 2013.
