Called “...a veritable who’s who list of killer regional jazz players...” by the Buffalo News, the Buffalo Jazz Octet has performed since 2011, combining the power and compositional intricacy of a large ensemble with the flexibility and dynamism of a small improvising combo. The band’s players are accomplished in both mainstream jazz music and the avant-garde (having performed and/or recorded individually with such notable performers as Don Menza, Buddy Morrow, Taylor Ho Bynum, Bobby Militello, Bruce Johnstone, Wadada Leo Smith, Paul Bley, etc.). The group's debut album, recorded live at Pausa Art House in May 2016, is due out in early 2017 on Cadence Jazz Records. A November 2015 concert at Pausa Art House featured guest saxophonist Joe Ford (who's recorded frequently with McCoy Tyner).

I'm Welai (way-lay) a folk singer-songwriter from Portland. I write and perform music on guitar, piano, ukulele, and banjo, often incorporating other instruments as well. 

All the music and videos on this page are produced by me. I'm continually working on my demo albums and aim to release fully mastered versions soon. I also actively use this profile while writing songs, so you may hear raw performances mixed in with my more polished tracks. I hope you enjoy what I’ve been working on all these years. 

More About Me
I started teaching myself guitar in 7th grade. High school led me to discover 1960s folk rock, which inspired me to start writing my own songs.
