Biography:

DJ act Phonic Funk has forged an impressive reputation as a producer and performer since his dj-birth in 2004. Strikingly current yet hauntingly retrospective, “The Heartbreak EP” on (Dark Energy 2011) represents Phonic Funk’s best work in recent memory and further cements his reputation as one of the greatest deep minded house producers.

With support coming from big boys like Laurent Garnier, Milton Jackson, Steve Lawler and Jimpster the Phonic Funk sound is getting out of control. In a time when many musical acts are sticking to what has been ‘safe and tested’ Phonic Funk is really pushing the envelope with new and creative music filled with groovin’ phat baselines and is influenced by the melodic sounds of (deep) house guru’s François K, Todd Terry, Darren Emerson, Danny Tanaglia, Sneak, Dave Seaman, Deep Dish, Layo and Bushwacka, Funk d’ Void and many more.

Phonic Funk has played at all the big Dutch festivals; Dance Valley, Rockit, Free your Mind, FFWD and Mysteryland to name a few and has been touring the clubs extensively the last few years. He’s played close to home and on the other side of the world;  His passport contains Europe, (South) America, Canada, (South) Africa, Australia and New Zealand – you get the idea.

A seamless fusion of grooving deep and tech house is the best way to describe this studio monster’s style. With releases on labels like Dark Energy, Salted Music, Mn2s, Strom Recordings, Ultra Music and a zillion more this guy is certainly someone to checkout regularly!

Jason van Wyk is a composer and music producer based in Cape Town, South Africa. His work spans album releases on labels such as n5MD and Home Normal, as well as film, media and production music for Universal, Paramount, Samuel Goldwyn Films, Netflix, The Criterion Collection, and Taschen.

Shane Halcon’s story is packed with excitement, drama and entertainment all starting with humble “small town” beginnings in Pretoria, South Africa where he, as a teen, established himself as an aspiring professional sportsman, and, after a dramatic career change, turned to a world renowned DJ.
After a one year-long collaboration as part of established EDM duo, First State, Shane decided it was time to take a step back and return to his roots, back to the Progressive and Trance sounds that sparked his passion years prior. This return was welcomed by fans and, also inspired the name for his new radio show, “Reprise”. 

Some of the accolades Shane can lay claim to is the honor of performing (Solo and part of First State) at the world's biggest club Privilege for ASOT550, ASOT 550 Moscow, Ministry of Sound (UK), Kazantip (UA), A residency at Ibiza's long standing Es Paradis, Istanbul Official Formula 1 Gran Prix Pre-party, Hosting his own floor at Africa's largest EDM event H2O, Miami Music Week, Amsterdam Dance Event and Gatecrasher along with numerous residencies and other high profile events. 

As a solo artist Shane's work includes mixing more than 10 CD compilations, some of them for Toolroom Records and Armada Music amongst others, and his releases have been supported by Armin van Buuren, Paul van Dyk, Richard Durand, Solarstone, Above & Beyond, Myon & Shane54, Judge Jules, Dash Berlin, Gareth Emery, Cosmic Gate, Roger Shah, Eddie Halliwell, Paul Oakenfold, Mat Zo, and many more.

The story started not so many years ago in 2008 with Tiesto picking up on Sander van Dien's emerging production talent of the back of such smash hits as 'Falling'. Taking the name First State and signing to Black Hole Music, Sander has never looked back and two artist albums later he continues to provide massive smash hits that rock dancefloors the world over. Whether its his eagerly awaited tracks with Sarah Howells such as Reverie, Skies on Fire or the hugely popular mashups coined affectionately as 'Bashups' that rock the likes of Armin van Buuren or Afrojack's sets; Sander is a consistent producer of massive dance floor pleasing anthems. Morphing the First State sound over the last two albums the last twelve months have seen a more underground, housier edge emerge alongside the big riffs, breakdowns and luscious vocals we have come to love from the studio in Holland.

A ‘born and bred’ Capetonian, Gareth Scott (a.k.a. Scott Small) began his ‘love affair’ with electronic music in 1999, playing ‘Uplifting & Progressive Trance’, spending most of the following 3 years in the Clubs, and playing private venues in Cape Town’s Southern Suburbs. 

In 2002, the ‘business bug’ bit and Gareth moved into Event Management and Production, shifting his focus towards a more commercial market for a few years, offering a valuable and extensive musical experience. 

In early 2006, he took a step back from corporate affairs and started a now, successful, private, par-time production company with a close friend, called Club33 Productions [ www.club33.co.za ], allowing him to once again focus on his own musical preferences.

2008 saw Gareth teaming up with fellow Cape Town Trance Artist and ex UCT Station Manager, Shaun Holiday, to form Mixed-Up Productions and ‘HALO’ [ www.mixedup.co.za ] …Cape Town’s ONLY Concept dedicated to the Global Sound of ‘Trance & Progressive’. Gareth and Shaun also re-ignited the flame of South Africa's ONLY Dedicated Trance & Progressive Radio Show, ‘Come Down Monday’ …which is currently supported by Dance Radio Global [ www.danceradioglobal.com ], Dance Web Radio [ www.dancewebradio.co.za ] and UCT Radio 104.5FM [ www.uctradio.co.za ].

2009/2010 saw Gareth supporting almost every top International Trance orientated Artist to appear in Cape Town, including Richard Durand [Terminal 4], Daniel Wanrooy [In Trance We Trust], First State (a.k.a. Sander Van Dien) [Black Hole Recordings], Guy Mearns, Dark By Design (a.k.a. Gaz West) & Phil York, as well as appearing alongside a host of South Africa’s top Artists, including James G, Shane Halcon, Dean Fuel and Roger Goode, to name a few. Gareth has also appeared twice at what is arguably, South Africa’s Number 1 Trance Club, E.S.P. [JHB], and was invited onto Yebo Radio in early October 2009, representing ‘Come Down Monday’ and ‘HALO’. 

Gareth has also had numerous Guest Mixes featured on various Radio Shows and Podcasts across The Globe, ending the year off with a 2 Hour Project for Max Angel’s ‘Sacred Sessions’, on Dance Radio Global [ www.danceradioglobal.com ], as well as the exclusive MARCIE Year End Project, with renowned Trance Vocalist, Marcie Joy.



----- PERFORMANCE -----


'Although essentially considered a 'Trance' Artist, Gareth is always experimenting with different sounds, due to his colourful musical background …which has landed him doing numerous reworks, edits and mash-ups, both for personal use and for fellow artists of various genres ...adding influence to his performances.

Being a keen enthusiast of technology, Gareth applies his trade on Ableton Live, which makes for some interesting intros, breaks, layering and vocal add-ins to his performances ...but he can still often be seen, steering up to 4x CDJs and an EFX across the floor!

Over the years, Gareth has developed a refreshing musical approach, with entertainment and 'flow' being the core of every performance. All of his sets have a distinctive progression to them and his music is always fresh …morphing and moulding, depending on his set times, but always portraying a classic Trance feel, in tune with his musical personality.

Rest assured that every set, is carefully thought through and prepared for, and that each performance will be an exciting and interesting journey from start to finish.'
