Great song, good live recording too. Works acoustically but I would love to hear a version with a full band.

The Immediate are a three-piece power pop band from Mold in north Wales.
We originally split in 1997 due to frustration, an argument over a mouth organ and the success of Stereophonics.

We released one single (unaccountably popular in Sweden), made every conceivable mistake in the How To Be A Successful Indie Band handbook, toured with some excellent bands (Mansun, 60ft Dolls, Dodgy) and flickered out, leaving behind the memory of some great gigs, a few fine songs, and little else.

Earlier this year, we reconvened to repair friendships and renew tinnitus. New songs came much more easily than the old ones, probably because we are playing to please only ourselves for the first time in our existence.

There is more truth and resonance in our songs now than ever before. And power. And invention. We write songs about hope and love in the face of the moribund, daily grind. 

You will possibly hear fragments and echoes of the following artists in our sound (The Jam, Wire, XTC, Pixies, Badfinger, Dr Feelgood, Small Faces, Husker Du, The Who, Ride, Big Star, The Cure, Joy Formidable, The Go-Betweens, Teenage Fanclub), but nothing has been plagiarised or misappropriated to mask a deficiency of our own ideas.

Our new EP, Shadows and Ghosts (available from iTunes / Amazon etc. on Friday 2nd September and on CD from Whipcord Records) smoulders with melodicism, melancholy and power.

As a example of what we can do with our mobile recording setup, I set the challenge of learning and recording a couple of new songs from scratch within a couple of hours.

This track was recorded live (guitars and vocals at the same time, apart from the backing vocal overdubs at the end), in a bedroom with no acoustic treatment, in under an hour. I think this is Take 4 for those who are counting at home. :)

While by no means a perfect performance or recording, it stands as a good testament to what can be achieved in a short space of time with the right skills and equipment. Hope you enjoy!

About a year ago I mentioned that if I could only have one mic to record a whole song with, I'd probably choose the SM57. So, I thought I'd put my money where my mouth was! Of course, then my brain decided the song REALLY needed slide guitar, which I hadn't played in about a decade... so that was another little challenge. :)

Only acoustic instruments and voices, untreated room, using only one SM57 and a little Art Tube preamp.

This track was recorded in a one-hour session as part of the creative event "Bardfest", in an untreated bunk room in deepest Yorkshire. The goal here was to give as many people as possible a little taster to record anything they wanted, and this is one of those songs.

Night Vision is the first single release for my new album: Wild Service. (Wider album release Autumn 2021) Produced by myself, and mixed by the amazing Jon Kelly(Kate Bush, Tori Amos)

Each track relates to nature at the time of year of its release, and associated mythology. Night Vision is about entry in to the dark half of the year. The death life death cycle. It's a song to song. 

Each track is made from sound experiments, and field recordings, that relate to the narratives around each time of year.

The album is themed around the wheel of the year. Inviting the listener to enter the wheel at the point of entry of their choosing. The resulting body of work will have no set beginning or end.

My Dad maintains I was found under a gooseberry bush, and he should know. I grew up in Sussex, then further up in Gwynedd.
Most of the songs here are one take demos or live recordings.
