The fourth EP from Soma’s 20th Birthday series is a Techno through and through. Two of the most talented producers around at the moment meet on this release, with Gary beck turning in and soul- shaking remix of Tony Thomas’s Beginnings track and Mark Broom toughening up Itamar Sagi’s classic One Million Oaks track.
The on-form Gary Beck is currently one of the hottest tickets in Techno and House just now, working with labels like Soma, CLR, Drumcode, Electric Deluxe, Saved and of course, his own fledgling imprint, Bek Audio. Gary specifically requested to remix this Tony Thomas original saying it was one of the tracks that blew him away in his early days of Electronic music. Monstrous doesn’t even describe this.

Mark Broom and Soma have history. Producing with Percy X at the turn of the century, and also with Mihalis Safras more recently, plus a couple of great remixes along the way (including Percy X, The Separatists and Let’s Go Outside). Mark brings a thundering rework of the original combining massive kick and sub bass and stabs galore. Effective and most certainly driving, this remix sees Mark Broom at his best.

2011 will see Soma Recordings celebrate their 20th year of releasing stunning and eclectic music from across the electronic spectrum. The label will release a series of singles throughout the year (some vinyl and some digital) , containing remixes of Soma1s extensive catalogue , including remixes of their big tracks like Scott Grooves’ ‘Mothership Reconnection’ (famously remixed, previously, by Daft Punk), Funk D’Void’s ‘Diabla, Slam’s Stepback’ and H-Foundation’s ‘Tonight’ to name a few. These releases culminate in a CD box-set released in September, containing a collection of their favourite remixes, ‘Hidden Gems’ from Soma’s 20 back-catalogue and also several exclusive tracks and DJ mixes, including one by Label co-founders SLAM.

Tapping into the more hallucogenic properties of techno. Wolfgang and Reinhard Voigt get back to knead the bodies and minds of the dancing crowd – while being quite upfront about their aesthetic goals. The bold and twitchy A-side SUPERPITCH does exactly that: riding the pitch, and riding it hard. Its incessantly morphing bell sounds are screwing with your sensory inputs, making you an easy prey for the cut's simple and effective beat 'n' bass patterns. However, the secret showstopper of this release might actually be the flipside's aptly named cut SUPERTRIP – a dramatic, string-laden techno journey that starts with a spartan, but heartily grinding bassline and soon evolves into a fully-fledged synth stomper. Ein genaueres Studium von Beipackzettel und Nebenwirkungen entlarvt die halluzinogenen Eigenschaften des Voigt'schen Klangs, eine regelrechte Knetmaschine für Körper und Geist der tanzenden Meute. Ziemlich eindeutig auch das ästhetische Ziel – die schön patzige A-Seite SUPERPITCH etwa tut genau das, was sie sagt: den Pitch reiten, und zwar hart. Die unermüdlich morphenden Glocken bringen sämtliche Sinneseindrücke durcheinander und machen den Hörer zur einfachen Beute für die simplen und höchst effektiven Beat- und Bassmuster des Tracks. Der geheime Hit jedoch verbirgt sich auf der Rückseite – das sinnig benannte SUPERTRIP, eine dramatische, streicherlastige Technoreise, die mit einer spartanischen, aber herzhaft reibenden Bassline beginnt und sich schnell zum vollausgestatteten Synthie-Stampfer entwickelt. CD 115), Gui's presence to crackling, propulsive cuts
TESLA and DRIVER is unmistakenly felt, but focusses
on a much more muscular approach to dance music - a
perfect fit for Renato's expanded floor expertise, making
this 12" an absolute no-brainer for any club pundit
interested in bringing the sweat to the party.

Since 2015, James Welsh’s contribution to Phantasy as Kamera has delivered a series of releases shrouded in mystery, injected with the personal energy of both a hardcore and club heritage.
