Industry heavyweights @moerbeck, @matrixxman, @jeroensearch, @anthonylinell and @pan-pot themselves share their interpretations of @wigbert's work on ‘Distorted Matter Remixes'.

Starting off strong is Mørbeck’s version of ‘Reflection’, with a charging kick drum and heavy acid line powering the momentum. Furious cymbals and a high pitched synth line push the tempo. Up next is Matrixxman’s Labyrinth remix of ‘Automatic Loop’, a dubbed out bass heavy edit where a galloping kick drum pushes along with determination. Last on the A-side are Pan-Pot with their edit of ‘Xcelerator’. Surrounded by a thumping kick drum and shooting snares, a distorted vocal reverberates its way throughout uttering the name of the track.

On the flip side Jeroen Search delivers his version of ‘Focus’: a percussive workout with an array of different drums working simultaneously together. Mischievous synth lines are balanced by uplifting organ chords. Last up is Anthony Linell's Sunday Adventure Club (S.A.C.) remix of ‘Reflection’. This slower paced track marches along to a pounding kick drum and rattling hi-hats. An ever present bass line brings weight and texture to an already heaving track.

Oscar L’s star continues to rise for Adam Beyer’s labels; after a trio of Truesoul EP’s between 2017-2019, he stepped up to make his debut on Drumcode in 2020. With a new year comes a fresh Truesoul offering, comprised of a triumvirate of cuts fit for different musical moods.

The Spanish artist expands his repertoire with ‘Under My Skin’, the title track is a perky groover driven by deep bass stabs and a cheeky vocal that will be familiar to many. Keep ‘X’ in your back pocket; it’s a weapon that builds like a sky scraper and is made for peak-time moments, when the opportunity arises. ‘Sharing With You’ was debuted at BPM Costa Rica in January 2020 and is a chugging, vocal-led gem with plenty of low-slung energy.

Part of the new brigade of artists making their mark on the label, Veerus lands his fifth release in two years on Drumcode.

With a pair of EPs and numerous contributions to the coveted A-Sides compilation under his belt since his debut in 2018, Veerus has established himself as a talented go-to producer for Adam Beyer; from his stirring cut ‘Hypnosis’ that highlighted the Drumcode founder’s Cercle performance, to the killer ‘System’ that provided an early 2020 moment for the label. His consistent vein of form will result in a coveted spot at Drumcode Festival Malta 2021 in September.

‘Recovery’ continues the Italian’s talent for crafting powerful melody-led techno projections. The title track is an ace. What begins as a smoky atmospheric cut is quickly elevated to beast status as intergalactic robot stabs shatter the mist, while an acid-underbelly adds to the mood. ‘Dysfunction’ brims with a distinct 90s synth aesthetic, propelled by a crisp and classy bottom end.

Argentinian producer Tomas Heredia presents the ‘Before The Ashes EP’.

A rising star of the South American electronic music scene, the ‘Before The Ashes EP’ is Tomas’ second solo release on the label. His label debut ‘Gave U My Love’ was released in November 2020, and was supported by Above & Beyond, Andrew Rayel, Ruben de Ronde and Ørjan Nilsen. 

Tomas regularly supports Above & Beyond when they tour Argentina, most recently at Mar Del Plata in 2019. Long-term fans may recognise Tomas from his ‘At Sunrise’ remix of Above & Beyond and Richard Bedford’s ‘On My Way To Heaven’, released in 2012.

Alongside a pair of new productions from Tomas, the ‘Before The Ashes EP’ also contains a new remix of ‘Gave U My Love’, from veteran producer Mike Saint-Jules.

Nu Groove was one of the pioneering house music labels to come out of New York. Originally active between 1988 and 1992, its mark on the scene was to be felt for years to come. The cult label has been lovingly cared for by Defected since 2017, when the label group acquired the catalogue and re-packaged it for a digital world. Now Nu Groove are releasing new productions for the first time in almost three decades, and after debuting with a special 12” double release from Deetron and Jovonn, Deetron’s contribution now has its anticipated digital release. Once again demonstrating his house mastery, the Character boss and key player in Switzerland’s musical scene opens with the piano-laden, sparkling groove of ‘Dr. Melonball’. ‘V-NRG’ follows, a blissed-out club cut with melodic keys and a powerful bassline that captures the energy of a steamy dancefloor. Transporting its listeners to the roots of New York City house, this release signals exciting things to come from a revived Nu Groove records.
