After the feedback on my lockdown streams had been so joyous, particularly from the Hacienda fan contingent, I wanted to share the side of my record collection that had brought that joy during the streams in a live club environment.
The Hacienda was not only a huge part of UK club culture, but equally inspirational for many of us Stokie’s who were travelling up the M6 to experience some of these legendary nights.
Manchester was a real melting pot during this time. It wasn’t just the Hac of course, but other clubs such as Konspiracy & Most Excellent, just to name 2 that were having a big impact on all that were attending the events in Manchester during this time.
Then there were the record shops…
I would make my pilgrimage to Manchester most weekends, like most aspiring DJ’s would. The record buying mecca at the time was Eastern Bloc. There were of course iconic shops that pre-date this such as the legendary Spin Inn and then had other great shops such as MCR Underground which was an Iconic shop for many that sadly was forced to close after tragic bombing in the mid 90s. Not forgetting the mighty Vinyl Exchange where I spent many happy hours.
Afflecks Palace for many was a haven of culture. Clothes, records, posters, all kinds of paraphernalia and a place where people would meet up to hang out. Most definitely one of Manchesters most iconic spots which also had an impact on me.

Hi folks, well here's the last of the Dj mixes from this incredible night we all had at the Sasha Classics Social - 2023 party in Manchester. I must say the quality of all of the SCS dj mixes has been of  top quality & all hard acts to follow. The evening was one of the best nights/crowds i've played at in a long while. The build up to this event was immense and the night was beyond any of our expectations. A huge thank you to all you lovely people who came and partied hard until 4 a.m too, i wasn't expecting the floor to still be as busy and full of the nicest, clued up old skool ravers. Props to the Mods who worked so hard putting this together and also for maintaining this awesome Facebook group. Every DJ played a belter, Steve Vertigo was a complete gent and played a blinder as predicted. So it was left for me to finish off this seminal occasion with a set packed full of my edits which i'd created especially for this evening. I hope you enjoy this mix and it gives you the same enjoyment i had playing it to such a beautiful gathering of like minded souls. Thank you. Going out to everyone involved in the SCS site. My old school sets are inspired by the cassettes I heard just as I was getting into the dance/ rave scene as a teenager in roughly '90-'92. Those tapes came from places including Grin DJ's (Vertigo/ Welly, Jon Kelly), Shelleys (Sasha, Dave Seaman, Nipper), and some of the bigger raves at the time including Fantazia, Obsession, Universe ect. 

Everything I mix is done on two Technics with Allen & Heath Xone22 mixer via Serato scratch live.

12 Inch Lover - Old School Classics Vol 1

Soak was one of the original pioneering house nights widely known for hosting nights at the Warehouse and Corn Exchange in Leeds. The Exchange is now just one of three Corn Exchanges in the country which operates in its traditional capacity as a center for trade and remains one of 2 Grade I listed buildings in the city alongside the town hall. The Warehouse still stands hosting club events weekly.  

This set was recorded live in the summer of 1993 featuring tracks from Fishbone beat, Spooky and the truly fabulous dilemma. Enjoy x

I've been DJing since 1985 and play a range of styles Old Skool, Breaks, all things House, Balearic, Electro Funk etc etc. I pretty much play anything that has a decent groove & a tasty b-line.....These days I love making my own edits and remixes, especially old skool. I also do Dj tuition for young & old alike.  I ran & still run numerous club nights. Played at some amazing clubs and outdoor parties throughout Europe & Asia and was heavily involved in the U.K rave/free party scene and hugely inspired by D.i.Y and their ethos of parties/music. I also used to run a label & dance record shop in the 90's. I recently won the Sasha classics FB group competition and supported Ian Ossia in Leicester.
