Great rendition, its one of my favourite tunes from Billy Preston. I met him in the eighties in Berlin, when he was on tour with Syreeta.

Purple Mountain - with Ronny Heimdal / Electric Guitar

Here's an original Latin Jazz groove that includes the very fine Spanish flutist Santi-Caballero Mendez https://soundcloud.com/santi-caballero and German bassist Mirko Borach (Stringburner) https://soundcloud.com/stringburner.  Wrote this tune with kind of a Santana groove, and think you will love what Santi-Caballero does with his gorgeous flute playing.  I have the trombone patch solos.  Route 251 is named after the classic II-V-I chord changes around which the tune is built. Billy Preston has always been an important figure in music for me, and I asked the very fine vocalist Martin Jones to join me with his soulful singing on this 70s classic.  Billy was always one of the funkiest keyboard players out there, and was often called the 5th Beatle.   Because of Billy's superb piano, synth and organ skills, he was a top session player and toured with many musicians including Eric Clapton, Ray Charles, The Beatles, Little Richard and Sam Cooke.  Here's our tribute to the late great Billy Preston, who wrote hits such as Space Race, Will it Go Round in Circles, Outa Space, That's the Way God Planned it and co-wrote You are So Beautiful, which Joe Cocker then made famous. Nothing From Nothing - with Martin Jones

The brilliant Dan van den Berg https://soundcloud.com/danarchx and I are thrilled to share a tribute to two of our favorite bands, The Mahavishnu Orchestra and Return to Forever.  These seminal bands and their musicians were so important to the merging of rock and jazz, many having come out of Miles Davis' fusion band, and featured virtuoso soloists and creativity that had not been seen before with electric music.  Dan here plays both electric and acoustic guitars, and has added so very much of himself to this modal tune.  The tune features a repeating simple lick, with dueling aggressive synth and guitar solos that these bands pioneered and took to a very high level, with John McLaughlin and Al DiMiola on guitars and Jan Hammer and Chick Corea on keyboards. Mahafusionu - with Dan van den Berg / guitars

Excited to release Spring Blossom, an original jazz tune with three of the very finest true jazz players on SC.   I have known Alan for a decade, having worked and played with him here in New York.  He's a world class digital marketing professional, superb and highly educated musician, collector of extraordinary guitars, and created the melody here for Spring Blossom.  Santi-Caballero Mendez is a wonderful multi-instrumentalist from Barcelona, and plays saxophones and flute with both ease and taste.  Santi opens the tune up on alto saxophone.   This is my first collaboration with Manuel, who is from the island of Sardinia, Italy.  Manuel is a superb bass player, and performs here on his fretless 6 string - an instrument I am certain Alan would love to get his hands on:).  Despite being born with a handicap to his right hand, Manuel has overcome this hurdle to create and play remarkable jazz and fusion bass lines and music, in addition to drums.  I'm looking forward to doing some very electric fusion tunes with him too, as his understanding of bass and rhythm is simply stunning.  Straordinario.

K-Retrograde Motion

Our little band has been busy over the summer months working on songs for a fall release.  This is perhaps one of the more spiritually-centered songs we have written and published.  How responsible are we for the evil that has come upon the world, for the resultant suffering it has brought. Peter's beautiful words begin with an act of redemption for mankind, but end with judgement not by God's choice, but man's will. 
The words did not come easily as Peter confesses that his pen "hovered above the last line for several minutes" not wanting to write it, but with a prophet's conviction, knew it must be written. The question is begged by those who will to believe, does the beauty of God's creation also involve justice and judgement, what Luther called "God's alien work"?  
Peter's verse has never been more poignant or Seagull's production more finely crafted. His track note also offers further insight into our thinking on the song and is well worth reading.

This song began in Artur's jam room at his house, where he creates all of his amazing music on his Fender Jaguar, which is perfect for the surf sound, at which he's a master. He shared it with Josh, who shared it with the group.

Before Josh could lay down a bass part to it, though, JJ came up with his elegantly moody synth and laid it down. The rhythm section, Josh and Ken, then did their usual dance, dialing it in with some back and forth. Stephen was next in line, adding a subtle duet with Artur's chords. Tez then played the ethereal lead throughout most of it. Stephen, after it was pretty much laid down, came through with the ripping wah solo towards the end.

Once the music was all taken care of, Carl came up with some great lyrics for it, and sang them, as the newest member of the group. He also laid down an accompanying acoustic rhythm guitar part, too. After Carl did his thing, we turned it over to Stephen for a mix, which he did with his professional skill set.

This is the latest in a long line of surf rock tunes Artur has shared with Eclectic Collective. If you dig the sound, he has plenty more great ones on his page, which are worth checking out, too. We tried to do this with a little nod to The Police, the band, not the profession. We hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed making it. Thanks for listening.
