Barcelona - a tribute to Paco de Lucia, Al DiMiola, Dan van den Berg and Emily Remler

Here's some beautiful jazz guitar!  Angel Eyes is one of the all time classics, a minor bluey ballad that has been recorded by so many of the greats, including four times by Ella Fitzgerald, who called it her favorite tune.  Because of his jazz knowledge and sensitivity, Al Schulman was the perfect choice here to join me, and a little bit down the road we will be releasing another version with trumpeter extraordinaire Vivek Patel.   

Al is a leading world visionary in digital marketing, advertising and creative, while also holding a masters degree in jazzed composition - my kind of guy.  He is also the only person I know who is on SoundCloud that I have ever met!  Ever.  Wow. Hello my SC family. Jamie and I have been planning to cover this song for two months. Jamie said, "this will be an all time beauty", and when he sent me a short sample of his progress I had to agree. 
Jamie told me that this would be a sweet version of Don't Know Why. Then he sent me the finished product, I was "WOWED", and I knew I had better get my game on. I needed to somehow do his work justice.

Mirko Borach again anchors such a fine bass line and the superb Johnny Pugh jumps in with big time harp.  I'm having a blast with the keyboards here.

Blue Bossa - with Al Schulman - guitar

Al Schulman is the real deal, and again brings his gorgeous sensibilities to the romantic jazz ballad Alice In Wonderland.   Listen to his melody and rhythm lines here, as he floats over the famous changes, turning this into his own creation.  It's a treat to be recording again with Al, who sports a Masters in Jazz Performance from Howard University, has toured with the great Hammond Organist Charles Earland, performed with the likes of Anita Baker, Herbie Hancock and Wynton Marsalis, and studied with Pat Metheny.   When Al heard my release of this yesterday he asked if he could take a shot at it, and here's what we now have:))  Al broke out one of his custom guitars, this time a custom Telecaster that was actually made for Mike Stern - one of only two made.  Remarkable playing and sensibilities here.

Broadway - with Stephan Lipinski / guitar

I feel blessed to be able to keep Alpha Roots’ vibe shining bright for the SoundCloud community to continue to enjoy. 

Alpha Roots sent me these reggae bass and rhythm guitar stem a long time ago, maybe even three years ago in 2016 (bad couch, bad couch)! I originally planned on having Evelyn (of the Reiki Run Rampant tracks on my page) sing over the rhythm but then I moved from Santa Cruz to Portland and she moved from the Pacific Northwest to Santa Cruz, bummer! So the stems sat in my hard drive until new inspiration arrived in the form of Johnny Minstrel, one of favorite song writers on SoundCloud, agreeing to write lyrics and sing over the track. Once Johnny added his deep felt lyrics and magical vocal chords to the mix, the rest of the song came together pretty quickly for me, lol! I often try to put together virtual bands for my tracks and I knew I had to have Jamie Rhind on the track since he worked with Alphio on multiple songs and a reunion was due. I always wanted to work with Jonathan Beckenstein, whose sensitive and thoughtful guitar work is always sublime. Darren and Russ came naturally.  My original drum production work was based on an old Sly Dunbar sample (I like to include the essence of some of my favorite artists in the tracks I work on) but the quality of the drums just wasn’t up to Russ’ standards, hahaha, so we brought Bitzone on board to lay down some drums and voila, roots reggae magic!

Big thanks to the band for coming together on this in fine fashion! Big ups to the SoundCloud community and the spirit of collaboration. Keep on digging! 

And massive thanks to Wou-Wou to bringing his visual arts talent to the project! My goal is to eventually put together a reggae album (possibly a double album which will also include some reggae collaborations between Alpha Roots and friends including Jamie Rhind and Russ Sinfield) with all profits going to the Cancer Research Institute. Be on the look out for a possible dub version of Red Earth Clay as well!!!
