RR0035 is the debut release on Reformed from
the mighty DJ Choppah. Choppah’s life in d&b
goes all the way back to ’94, when he first
caught on to the music. He’s been mixing since
2000, and has played at venues up and down the
nation and also internationally. He spendS a long
period with the Resistance Fammo, and is now
taking charge with the Digital Roots UK crew and the Jungle Revolution massive. On RR0035 he hooks up with the Reformed label guys, to unleash his sound in the shape of two big hitters, Oooh Yeahhh and Rubba Dub.
Oooh Yeahhh might hit you as a straight up banger, but the track and the production has hidden depths. Choppah begins things with the beat, and what a beat it is, adding in layers of synths, samples and effects, including a sexy vocal snatch which spills out the track’s title. The breaks kick in after the drop, giving you a sense of old skool which is well worked into the mix. Choppah uses all of his experience on Oooh Yeahhh, which’ll rock any club or home system. The perfect fit for Reformed, this one is set to be huge. Get inside Oooh Yeahhh.
Rubba Dub is another blasting jungle d&b number, with rushy breaks and fresh, in your face stabs in the intro. Things drop down for a second, as Choppah introduces ragga-tinged echo and a rolling, insistent bassline. He brings the pace back up, meeting the main section with a bright, optimistic feeling, but never forgetting the grit and the grime of his particular take on new skool, 2014-style jungle d&b. The result is a forceful, but measured track, a perfect response for Oooh Yeahhh.
Choppah has put together a release which is forward thinking, but which reflects where he is coming from and where he is at. Grab it now, and watch out for more from Choppah and Reformed soon.

Congo Natty aka Rebel MC has a career dating back to his early hit with Double Trouble, "Street Tuff," but is probably most respected as one of the pioneers of Jungle - perhaps the first uniquely UK-born bass music. 

"Jungle Revolution" features the whole of the extended Congo Natty family and was mixed with Adrian Sherwood. Clearly showing this Rasta's belief that Jungle is a re-boot of roots reggae for a new century, the record is full of blood and fire, the sternum-buzz of sub-bass, rapid fire drum breaks, sweet hooks, righteous anger and professions of religious fervour. It’s the kind of passionate, committed, raw and spiritual, beautiful record that doesn’t come along every day.  

To celebrate this release, we are streaming the track "UK Allstars," which features a who's who of British soundsystem culture. This is the first time ever that this line up have all appeared on one track together and so also marks a historic coming together of a scene which lies at the roots of so much of what we now take for granted in UK music, from dubstep to grime to drum & bass and beyond.
