Wasteland

Minor key synths cascade over a marching bassline, shadowed by an illuminated duet between Bates and Kimbra. It’s gospel in vocoder, a call and response as soulful as it is mechanic, as warm as it is unnerving.

When asked about the song Jonathan said: “Its helplessly returning to a vice (whether it be a person or substance) that you know for a fact will destroy you. A shuffle over a march. Kimbras character and mine having a verbal back and forth over gluttony.”

The track is taken from new album Trágame Tierra, set for release on April 22nd. With Trágame Tierra - his sophomore album under the moniker – Jonathan Bates has created a multi-layered collection of songs that continue to build on Big Black Delta’s already explosive electronics by adding more icy Scandinavian-leaning beats, near-country acoustic warmth, and more live instrumentation. The record also features “RCVR,” a masterful collaboration between Bates and Debbie Gibson as well as many other guests.

Bates, who is occasionally found playing guitar and singing with the likes of Brandon Flowers, Brian Wilson, Britt Daniel, Dhani Harrison and more, will be embarking on an extensive U.S. tour in support of the release – which kicks off on April 25th in Las Vegas and features stops in NYC, Chicago, Philadelphia, Boston, Seattle, D.C and his hometown of Los Angeles.

'Emergence' is an epic, operatic, ambitious amalgamation between audio-visual show, scientific research project, art installation and IDM record, the debut release on Max Cooper’s Mesh label and his second full-length release.

The record was conceived as a soundtrack to a new series of 11 pieces of video art, each exploring a different facet of the concept of ‘emergence’. The full A/V live show will premiere at Mutek, Japan on November 2nd 2016. Together the work is a marriage between the cosmic awe of a Carl Sagan film and the musical wonderment of Sigur Ros, made for meditating on the mystery of our emotional connection to fundamental natural form.

Hailing from the South Side of Chicago, Jamman has always sought out art to make sense of his reality. Since a young age, Jamman has pursued street poets such as Lupe Fiasco, Andre 3000, Jay-Z and Eminem to shed light on their own life experiences, with the hope that their words would translate and make sense of his own world. 

His experiences as a hyper-aware kid living in some of the worst neighborhoods of Chicago, being a lover of the visual arts, literature, and just everyday conversations with people have shaped and inspired Jamman to now share his work with the world around him.
